Social Profile:

For over 80 years, pit cooked barbecue has been the art of our success. We are one of the only few places left that slow cooks pork over hickory all night long. We feel that this is the only way to get the true old fashion flavor. 78 years down and a lifetime to go!

Venerable restaurant serves BBQ meats smoked on a pit over a wood fire & popular hush puppies.

First time stopping by, very simple menu, atmosphere and service amazing. Value not that great, hushpuppies were great but for the money in my opinion there are better BBQ places around. The peanut butter pie was really good and they sold homemade pork rinds, too full now to give a taste test on them lol. The place has been around for over 80 years the sign said and was cool to see news articles and pictures on the tables. I had the chopped chicken and my husband had the bbq jumbo plate, the fries were good crispy, very small serving, onion rings were light and crispy, good sized portion, the bbq slaw was very good a little tangy but hey that’s the vinegar kissing your lips. Sweet tea was very sweet and they bring you your own little picture, very smart.

Fantastic experience all around. The atmosphere was welcoming and had that classic barbecue lodge feel. Our server, Trisha, was absolutely amazing! She’s a true all-star who made the visit even better! The food was very good overall, and the pork BBQ and hush puppies were outstanding. Easily worth a stop if you’re in Shelby. We’ll definitely be back!

Solid western carolina barbecue spot…. quick service and the pork offering with the red vinegar sauce was moist, tender with a light smoke taste. The slaw is a spicy red, but not too spicy. The Hush puppies were pretty average.

Red Bridges Barbecue Lodge is a true Carolina classic! The barbecue has that authentic, smoky flavor that keeps people coming back, and the hush puppies are always a favorite. The portions are generous and satisfying, and the prices are fair for the quality you get. The staff is friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience feel like a family tradition. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that it can get really busy, which sometimes means a bit of a wait—but honestly, that just shows how loved this place is. Definitely worth a stop if you’re anywhere near Shelby!

Not impressed. The pork, though tender, has a weak smokey flavor and is relying on the sauce to save it. The sauce has a tangy vinegar flavor, the molasses in it could be dialed back a little and there is a little spice bite to it which could be from Tabasco and that is nice. The potato salad is almost bland, if it weren’t for the little bits of pickle there would literally be no flavor at all. This may be the best they have here but it isn’t impressive and not worth a second try. The staff on the other hand are wonderful people, very friendly and attentive. If you are down for a cold beverage and nice atmosphere stop in and quench your thirst.

Good food. Chopped pork and chicken both excellent. Sides are good especially hush puppies. Portions are large. We had awful service. After taking our order and dropping off our food we didn’t see our server again. We waited almost 40 minutes for her to come back before we paid our bill up front (which is standard). We wanted a box and some dessert but got neither. It’s too bad because the older woman who waited on us seems to have been around a long time. Maybe she got to talking with some regulars and forgot we existed. It shouldn’t have happened.

Restaurant not busy. 6 or 7 tables total. Table of 4 behind my wife gig at least six visits from their server and got a box for leftovers. Never spoke to us either.

I grew up 15 minutes away, so I’ve been eating here all of my life. It’s been a while since I’ve been for a visit, though, but it did not disappoint. The food was fresh, homemade, and just as delicious as I remember. I’ll definitely be back soon.

Stopped in for lunch while traveling through Shelby.
We found good food, great attentive service and a very lively atmosphere during the lunch hour. Flavoring of their food is specific to the Region, and while not my specific pick was good overall.

Great food, service, and atmosphere. Our food was prepared quickly. Our server was very friendly. Each thing we ordered was delicious. I bought sauce to take back home to the Midwest. Don’t forget to order some banana pudding for dessert!

This place is a step back in time. Remember the good old days when they used to leave the tea pitcher on the table. This is that kind of place. The barbecue was so tender and had a great smoked flavor. I’m not a fan of red slaw, but theirs was excellent. The staff was so friendly. All in all a great experience!
