Truly a wonderful bakery. In fact it was so good that I went way out of my way to go back a second time. The baked goods were some of the best I’ve ever tasted and when the salted carmel flakey roll thing was recommended as one of the customer favorite… It makes perfect sense. It was unreal. The second visit I had the cardamom bun which also was very good. This true gem is one of those old-school bakery’s where there are two generations running the place and you get the kindness that comes from the fact that the people working behind the counter are also the owners. The ambiance… I’d describe it as “small-town wholesome” it’s located right in the downtown with plenty of seating and bright warm light coming through the storefront windows. Don’t miss this place you’d regret it.

Really nice place to have brunch if you’re in the neighborhood. Super friendly service. Nice atmosphere, good vibes, very clean. All of the baked goods are way above average, tasty and fresh. Liked the coffee. Was slightly disappointed that the eggs and meat in my breakfast sandwich were precooked and warmed up. Bacon looked and tasted like it had been in the fridge for a few days. Bacon and eggs are pretty easy to cook up fast in a normal kitchen. Kind of bland for a somewhat expensive breakfast sandwich. Will probably stop back for some coffee, cookies, muffins, croissants.

Inconsistent stock of key pastries! To run out of two of the most popular items before 8:30am on a Saturday is just poor business. This is the third time in the last few weeks that I’ve been in to get a specific item – and no matter the time of day they’ve run out. The bread and pastries are most often over cooked and too dark – a few simple fixes could make the experience there so much better. Staff were very kind and helpful but only so much they could do.

The baked goods here are out of this world! I tried the specialty danish (apricot and raspberry today!) and my partner had the cinnamon roll. Both were super tasty! The fresh bread looks incredible as well!

Red Bench Bakery is an ideal drop-in place for breakfast, lunch, or a refreshing snack. It adds a lot to our downtown Excelsior, MN.
It is a charming little café for dining in with a friend or neighbor; it also has a pleasant street-side patio for dining during warmer months. Often, it is easy to buy a scone and coffee and enjoy them on the bench just outside the door. Dogs on a lease are welcome on the patio.
We’ve enjoyed several varieties of pastries, cookies, scones (my favorite is the Blueberry Scone), and cinnamon rolls – sometimes to go. Their selection of Artisan breads is the best around. Actually, they fill many pick-up orders for local families and businesses. Today, the daily offering of a filled brioche was raspberry. However, all the flavors are consistently delicious. The kids won’t miss having a donut, but I think the filled brioches are ideal for adults.
I also recommend both the Chicken Salad, Tuna Salad, Vegetable Quiche, and Ratatouille Quiche. The soups and salads taste just-made with the freshest ingredients. We always love the street baguette. For certain meals, the Cardamon Bread is flavorful and has an amazing crust! You’ll find an excellent range of coffee, tea, and cold beverages. And they have fantastic ice cream to go.
The staff is friendly and kind, even when super busy. They always extend a warm welcome! It is a small space, but they really offer great products. The décor is warm natural tones and feels a bit like places we’ve enjoyed in Europe. It’s definitely worth a visit!

I carried out, so I can’t really comment on the atmosphere, but the pastries and coffee were great. I got the almond chocolate croissant, and it was wonderful, flaky and flavorful. The mocha was excellent as well, a very smooth, pleasant experience. The man working the counter was very kind and polite, as well!

My mom always wants to stop here when she comes up from Rochester so it must be good. Croissants are excellent and the staff are so sweet. Chaska location is also really nice—this location can get very busy on the weekends.

Great spot for morning meeting or a date. However, you gotta make sure you get there early enough because it gets busy! Get a cinnamon roll before they run out!

Get out of the house with a baby, all to find out they are not serving any sandwiches even though their signs says they do. Good food, but when you have the inconsistency, it makes you not want to keep trying to get lunch here.
