My son is a OTR trucker and he’s always telling me about his food experiences good, bad, questionable and why family encourage the green potato salad family reunion maker to open a restaurant .
This was a questionable experience.
He had me in tears as he first sent the picture of his plate. I already knew what each section was lacking and that the bread was well done toasted on one side and pretty presented on the side they wanted him to believe. But I let him tell me because it was his experience but I wanted to post because it was hilarious. He said there was a man sitting outside, he asked him about the food he said it was real good but only orders the same thing. Hmm I should have left. Then he went forth and the lady that he saw coming from the back was giving him grandma is the cook vibes by appearances. Until she asked what you want, he asked her which was the best between the chicken and catfish (while looking to see if he could see the cook, clearly not her) she said the fish. He said she wasn’t enthusiastic but took the order nonchalantly. He ordered the catfish fried extra crispy, Mac n chz and cajun “dirty” rice. He said Ma, I should have left, right when she started taking the order…instead he said he was hungry, had been driving for 7 hours and had to wait for his truck to be cleaned so why not. He opened the plate and looked at it touched the fish for crispy, disillusioned because of the perfectly toasted bread 1 piece folded, questionable thought why bread and hushpuppies said thank you have a good day, she grumbled and he smiled and left. He said, “ma, i should have tasted something before I left.” He walked back across the street and was ready to get back on the road. He took a picture of the plate after he got in. Because he thought he was in for a treat. Unfolded the toast and said I wanted the fish extra crispy not the bread on one side and the golf ball hushpuppies. The “cajun dirty” rice minused everything Cajun and dirty but stuck between lack of seasoning of mexican brown rice for hypertension people and the knorrs packs that has its own seasoning. No hamburger, or sausage meat, no seasonings, just browned seriously browned rice, maybe they thought the skillet had reserved seasonings. The Mac n chz was like dollar tree Mac n chz boxed minus everything cheese and flavor and he made a command decision to not waste his salt packages on any of it. They could be used elsewhere
The hushpuppies where obviously cooked with the catfish that scream seasoning but they both had a used chicken oil aftertaste. He said ma, same grease. Which left the best side of the toast and the outer perimeter the perfect small sandwich. But the tarter sauce he gives a . He decided that the culture that eats there aren’t for seasoned soul food just for the appearances of it. Until next stop..I say truckers share your experiences so you can eat well along your journey. From a Son, Mom who seasons with love and spices.
