I still think about this place even though it’s been over a year since I’ve eaten here. I can say it ruined coffee for me I’ve never had a more fragrant coffee than at this location and wished I lived closer to this cafe.

The owner and her son specialize in different items here. The son specializes in coffee and the owner in dumplings & niu rou mian! I had the dumplings and they had the home made Taiwanese taste to them. I loved it. This is one of my Philly recommended locations to everyone.

✨a neighborhood hidden gem ☕️

If you’re a coffee connoisseurs or just a cafe hopper (like me) I would say this is a must try spot! Excited to visit time and time again.

Although I am not experienced enough as a coffee fiend to really appreciate the depth, I loved the passion put into each cup of coffee. We ordered the house blend (medium) and philly blend (dark). Each drink is pricy but the experience and effort to make it felt worth it. And we got cute matching cups and a little snack to go with!

What we got:
⭐️ Ray’s House Blend decaf, medium roast ($13)
– Ray’s Philly Blend, dark roast ($13)

Cannot wait to come back to this quirky cafe along a quieter street of Chinatown.

Came here after a solid recommendation, and it definitely lived up to the hype!

Food:
The food was surprisingly delicious, made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. They seem to be especially proud of their dumplings — and rightfully so. The Dumpling Sampler is a must if you want to try all the different flavors (highly recommend). And for context, we’re from NYC — not exactly short on great Chinese food — and this place still impressed us.

Coffee:
If you’re into coffee, this place is for you. The owner clearly takes it seriously — we ordered their most delicate (and pricey) brew. Couldn’t personally tell a huge difference taste-wise, but we loved his passion for the craft. Coffee connoisseurs: you’ve met your match.

Atmosphere:
What a charming little spot with a mix of cozy and quirky vibes. Would definitely come back the next time we’re in town!

This is a really wonderful and unique eatery. Lovely high-end hand crafted coffee drinks, with tasty Chinese food makes for a wonderful and surprising blend. It is a snug place and comfortable atmosphere with only a few tables. Service was great, but a tad slow and I think they are adjusting to the aftermath of some food influencers giving them glowing reviews. Get there early – and enjoy! I know that we will be back. The dumpling sampler was exquisite – give me about 3 of them along with a cup of their best coffee – and I am a happy man…

Very great drinks and I’m sure the food would be as well but we were just there for coffee/ tea. Highly recommend, very cozy and nice. Definitely on the pricey side though but worth it and the staff was very pleasant.

The coffee is solid. I got the Vietnamese iced coffee and my girlfriend got a latte. Mine was a little sweet but I won’t count that against them. What really brought this place down was the complete lack of hygiene and state of the restaurant. Dirty dishes were absolutely everywhere. There wasn’t a single surface without dirty dishes. While I do think you should manage your expectations in chinatown, this is begging for the transmission of foodborne illness. I did not take photos out of respect for the other patrons.

Lovely place with delicious Taiwanese dishes and high-quality tea and coffee! Ray’s Cafe & Tea House is now one of my favorite places in Chinatown (or even in Philly!), and I have been recommending it to acquaintances and friends ever since my visit. The owners are very friendly and welcoming, I hope to visit and dine in again soon with my parents- thank you so much for the wonderful dining experience

Ray’s Cafe in Philadelphia’s Chinatown had a mix of highs and lows during our visit. Unfortunately, the service was not great — there was visible arguing among staff due to a staff shortage, and that frustration seemed to spill over onto customers, which made the experience uncomfortable. The coffee was especially disappointing: at around $12 per cup, it was not worth the hype or the price.

On a positive note, the homemade dumplings were delicious and definitely the highlight of the meal. We ordered beef noodle soup, one order of dumplings, two orders of vegetable egg rolls, and three coffees, which came out to about $92 and change. Overall, while some of the food was good, both the coffee and most items felt overpriced for the quality and service received.

I have heard good things about this place so decided to check it out, maybe I had too good of an expectation and the experience turned out to be pretty mid, It’s a family owned business and only has a few tables so the dine in experience was a bit stressful. They reserved the table for people who want to get”real lunch” instead of grabbing a coffee and pastries, so I definitely wouldn’t call it a chill place to get coffee at.

Ordered the dumplings samplers set with the house drip coffee, I love the presentation but the foods was kinda mediocre. They do have a list of specialty coffee and tea you can get, that’s pretty much the only good thing I can say about it. The food is kinda overpriced for the environment it provides. (I just looked at the reviews from 6 years ago when the dumplings samplers were $9.75, it’s now $17.99, I guess the inflation did get to all of us these couple of years)

I would give this place 10 stars if I could. This is a tiny little place with only 4 or 5 tables, But oh my goodness was the food ever good! Would love to visit again sometime when I get back to Philly. Pictured are beef with onions and scallions, shrimp spring roll, cucumber salad, and decaf house coffee.
