Anyone know why rangoli is closed? : r/chicagofood – Reddit

Why is Rangoli closed in Chicago? Best … I used to be a rangoli fan but Indian paradise a little east down north is cleaner and better.

I visited Rangoli last Monday evening and ordered chicken tikka masala and bhindi masala. I picked up my food around 5 PM, and the restaurant was not busy at the time. Unfortunately, I was disappointed when I got home. The chicken tikka masala had very few pieces of chicken for the price of $18.50. The real letdown, however, was the bhindi masala, priced at $16.50. The okra was old and incredibly fibrous, making it nearly inedible. I had to spit out the fibrous parts because they were so tough. I’ve included a photo that shows the quality of the okra, and it’s clear that it wasn’t fresh. I hope they improve the quality of their ingredients in the future. I will not be visiting this restaurant again. And even if I do, I will avoid the okra at all cost.

We went for the unlimited dosa deal and it was very underwhelming. Everything lacked flavor and was lukewarm. Even adding some salt would have made it a little better. They gave us one bowl of sambar between two people and never asked if wanted a refill even though it’s supposed to be ‘unlimited’. Maybe the other items on the menu are better, but i wouldn’t recommend the dosa

I find Ragoli Kabob to be excellent!! I am a local of the area and my gf and I head there very often to get some authentic and fresh Indian cuisine. I am also always very pleased with the service. The food comes quickly and the servers are very friendly. I will be returning time and time again!

Amazing food and great experience at Rangoli Indian Cuisine! We tried the Gobi Manchurian, and it was absolutely delicious. The Masala Dosa was fantastic—crispy and flavorful—and they even served a variety of condiments on the side, all of which tasted amazing. Everything we ordered was just perfect. The food was too good, and we will definitely be coming back

I would’ve given 0 stars if I could. Had the worst experience at this location. We called ahead to ensure we could be accommodated 40 minutes before closing and was put on hold for over 10 minutes and was told yes orders are accepted 30 minutes before closing. They agreed to give us 20-30 minutes past closing to finish eating on the call but in person they rushed us after 10:05 pm. Ambience was good, no complaints there. The waiter had no knowledge of the menu, prices, and any general question about the restaurant. Food was salty, extremely oily, and not cooked through. The chefs left without acknowledging the issue. Manager was no where to be found even after requesting to see one. Waiters were left to handle the issue and had no clue. You had to wait forever to get an answer and the bill. If you called asking questions about the hours and the food expect to be put on hold for over 15 minutes. Also, expect to receive a small discount for the negligence showed by the chefs and management for providing bad food and service.

Great Indian food with really friendly staff! We came as a group to celebrate Diwali and had a great time trying the kebabs, chicken tikka masala, paneer makhani, and yellow dahl! All the food came out pretty quickly and the food was delicious! They also brought us some free dessert after which was super sweet of them!

Everything we ordered here was tasty and the service was friendly and attentive. The staff really seem to care about the food and have been helpful with suggestions. I’ve now been back to try more dishes and they continue to impress. This place feels kind of special, I love a place that seems to have heart and I think this is one of those places.

My favorites are the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, the kashmiri pulav, and the gobi manchurian. The kashmiri pulav has a really nice savory sweetness to it. The butter chicken and chicken tikka masala are just great versions of these dishes that are so rich and creamy I just want to keep eating them. The gobi manchurian (fried cauliflower with a sweet nan spicy sauce) is extraordinary. One of the best cauliflower dishes I’ve ever had.

I’d also highly recommend trying the dosa. I’ve tried the karam + ghee dosa and it was very very good. The dosa bread is massive and is wonderfully crunchy and bready. The items to dip in were also all very tasty (I don’t remember them all).

We also tried the onion bhajee, pav bhaji, chicken korma, and the gulab jamun, which were all tasty as well.

solid food with very nice staff and a cute enough space conveniently right down the street from my apartment.

Lakeview in general suffers from a lack of Indian food options, so it’s great to see this open up and Cumin (Indian/Nepalese) coming later this year.

we started with the pav bhaji and then had some garlic naan with the kashmiri pulav rice that was so very good, along with two of the typical chicken dishes and took some gulab jamun to go (my fav Indian dessert!).

excited to go back and have some more non-standard options on the menu.

Rangoli serves up quite generous portions. We had a very satisfying meal and still had leftovers. Mango lassi here was incredible: smooth, creamy mango heaven. Plain dosa didn’t have that golden look and the slight tartness from fermentation but was still enjoyable. It was fragrant, with a nice balance between thicker and crispier bites without being overly oily. Sambar was slightly too sour and runny for my taste but definitely properly spiced. Both the coconut and tomato chutney were solid. To pair with the dosa, they also brought out a nice tray with ghee, pickled mango, and chili powder. Dal tarka was mustard-seed-forward, flavorful, and hearty. The chicken vindaloo was loaded with chicken and bold spices but fell short due to slightly tough meat and a gravy that needed more vinegar to round it out. Service was friendly and attentive.
