Simply the best dogs and fries in Chicagoland. If a depression-style dog or polish is what you seek, there is none better than here. Don’t miss the Tuesday afternoon/evening car shows and the ice cream treats too.

This place really deserves consideration for the best hot dog and fries in Chicagoland, especially the fries as they are perfectly crispy but still soft on the inside. The thing that sets them apart with hot dogs is their char dog, which is snappy and loaded with flavor served on a great steamed bun. And you can’t beat the price, quick service, and drive-in atmosphere.

I grew up going to bob-o’s, sitting in front in the 90s with our teenaged crew all sharing baskets of fries and soggies. It’s the same family that owns Rand red hots and let me say they have been solid all these years. Rand red hots always has delicious food AND they don’t price gauge like so many other places do. I know I can now take my kids and get a great meal with lots of food and it’s cheaper than going to McDonald’s.
The char dog is my favorite and they give you like 20 lbs of fries with your dog. I usually go through the drive thru in the winter but we love sitting at the benches during the summer, listening to the oldies they play, looking at all the cool cars.

First time going(02/28/26) and honestly hot dogs were nothing to jump up and down for, they tasted somewhat bland and fries were average at best and the tamale was cut into pieces which I found extremely odd, There are definitely way better places for a hot dog to go to than there

Just as delicious as Gene & Jude’s except Rand’s fries are Crispier! Plus they have two options for how they cook their dogs. Boiled or grilled. And the option for if you want single or double dogs on each bun! But most importantly, WAY BETTER VALUE compared to Super Dawg! And definitely one of the number one Chicago foods my father would NEVER miss out on! And mine every time I leave a convention in Rosemont!

Great historic looking old dinner. Menu is short simple and to the point. Dogs and fries varieties only. Food was good for the cheap price point, the fries are outstanding, the dogs are a little small buy fresh and good. Very quick service and turn around time.
The Cons…. limited seating inside with only bar stools. The drive thru is very oddly placed, with a “by pass” lane cutting through the middle of the drive thru lane. All these flaws are acceptable for how good the food is. Still a 5 Star review.

Me and my wife visited here on Saturday and the food was good as usual. I asked the cashier what kind of oil is used on the food and he said beef tallow oil. He was energetic and very helpful by giving us this information. I also asked him how long they were using beef tallow and he said for 13 years since the place opened. I recommend this place to everyone who loves this type of food.

Been here awhile ago to eat. I see some updates from 2 years or so ago since I last was here. They take credit cards now and have ketchup if you ask for it. This is a plus. I appreciate the drive thru especially on colder days in winter when you don’t want to go out. An Affordable meal in todays world. Love the old fashion style of the place.Truly is a hidden gem in our time period.

I was visiting, but I was born in Chicago. The best place for hotdogs and polish. Their fries are made fresh cut, soaked,blanched, then fried. It’s the way you originally made fries. Their milkshakes and malts are made with real ice cream. Also the sandwiches come with an abundance of fries. If I ever come back to Chicago I will make a special trip to eat at Rand Red hots again. There is inside and outside eating.

Great spot to grab a Depression dog in Des Plaines. I love that they have a char dog as an option as well as the Maxwell Street Polish. Tasty fresh-cut fries. I would take Rand Red Hots any day over Gene & Jude’s.
