The place was empty on the Thursday night we went in, but it was 10pm. However we were very surprised at how good the food was, everything was very freshly made, lots of flavour and the service was excellent. I think we discovered a little gem in the place.

The decor could do with any update, but otherwise can’t fault the place. Would definitely go back.

The best Indian restaurant in Newcastle city centre! Traditional and reasonably priced. The service you get is second to none and the food is delicious. We have been coming here for years as a family and even though we’ve tried other Indian restaurants in Newcastle, nothing compares to the Raj! Can’t wait for our next visit.

We visited Raj Tandoori for our Christmas night out — 11 of us in total — and it was excellent as always.

The service was fantastic and the food extremely good. I’ve been here five times now and have never had bad food or poor service. The starters are generous — honestly like a main meal.

All 11 of us had at least two drinks each, and the total bill came to just £385 including tip, which is outstanding value.

Highly recommended

Great traditional curry house tucked down a side street in Newcastle. Excellent value for more and lots of choice. They even do a set menu for £15.95. Would recommend!

Ok but nothing special ! The Bombay potatoes were bad, too soft and had no taste and the naan was flat and not puffy. The rice was nice and my Balti was alright. Have had much better so won’t be returning !

Great traditional unpretentious Indian. Some great value offers on, food is great.
Owner clearly takes great pride in his place, it’s been there a long time, they’re doing something right.

Good value, high quality authentic recipes. Attentive staff, with the owner ensuring everyone is happy with their meals. Tasting a biriani and a vindaloo, they were perfectly spicy, I would expect the same flavours in India.

There was no need to book, but this was a Sunday at 7pm.

Been here a couple times and tried the vegan spinach curry and vegetable samosas. The food is unreal and they have big portions (you can definitely share one curry and rice between 2 people plus starter). I recommend this restaurant, they have good service and I will keep coming here.

The staff are very helpful and friendly. The food was excellent , Chicken Biryani with a vegetable sauce (made madras hot on request) Mutton Karhkri and a lovely Garlic and Corriander naan.
We enjoyed the food and restaurant atmosphere so much, we went back the following evening. By far one of the best Indian Restaurants we’ve eaten in .

First time I had been here so not sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. E of us ate. Poppadoms & pickles came. Not the normal small pots of pickle but 4 large pots. My main King prawn biriani, madras hot didn’t disappoint. Well spiced unlike most madras in Newcastle. We’ll be back
