Amazing clam chowder. You can taste the quality and freshness of the ingredients. Also had the fish and chips. Good tasting battered fish, nice amount of breading and goes great with the tartar sauce. Very respectful prices didn’t feel I was being gouged. Especially because they don’t hide their prices

Visited July 16th..see my receipt.
This place is just steps from the Delta King in old Sacramento. Every time I come to this area this place is always crowded!
They do a booming business and they get the orders out quickly. I ordered the fish and chips and they were hot and crunchy and not greasy! It also comes with fries. I shared it with my friend and we could not finish the one order! I see why they are busy..consistent in their food quality!
They have inside seating and outdoor seating both in the front and in the back where you can watch the train go by.
They also serve beer and sodas. Great fast lunch. No frills. Very casual yet relaxing!

Nice location and pleasant environment with lots of space to sit back and relax. Plenty to do in the area including the Railway Museum and the riverfront. Great Wild West high street feel in the area.
From a food perspective it’s ok, not awesome but not bad. The fish and chips could be less oily and the batter less thick but it definitely won’t break the bank and is good experience.

This is a good fish and chips shop in Old Sacramento! We were pleasantly surprised by the quality. You order at the window and they call out your number. There are picnic style benches in the patio area where you can sit. For drinks, you get sodas or beer. We got the fish and chips and a 12 oz bowl of clam chowder. We enjoyed both options. I highly recommend trying them out if you are in the Old Sac area and want something casual.

My family and I love this place! We travel from near Modesto to eat here. The reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because they stopped selling their cole slaw, and I feel that fried foods need some type of fresh side dish to go with it. I highly recommend their fried battered prawns and garlic fries

We were here on Saturday at 2PM (mid-April of 2025). It was pretty crowded. We got 2 fish and chips, 1 added sauce, and a bottle of coke, for $37 including tax. Fish is AMAZINGLY good- thin batter and soft fish inside. With some lemon on it, it was very yummy. Fries were good too, although it could be crispier to my taste. Amount of food is pretty good as well, my husband had some of my fries and he felt fairly full. The kick is the sauce. I think they said it’s house-made tartar sauce (dairy free confirmed by my lactose intolerant husband), and it is so fresh and so light. They have outdoor seating area (covered patio) like all the other restaurants at old sac, so it can be really loud time to time- not their fault, but just be aware. People who work here were super friendly and nice despite being busy. Public restroom available with soap and cold water nearby. Would def come back whenever we visit Old Sac.

Adjacent to the Delta King river boat in old Sacramento, the Railroad Fish & Chips is a memorable experience. Hot delicious crunchy fish. French fries that are a plenty. The best dish is the fish and shrimp basket. It is one of the must dos in old Sacramento.
