Anyone know what happened to RA Sushi at The District? – Reddit

My only complaint and it is a small one is I really wish they had boats. The platters were great
Sept 2024
Never never again. We visited RA sushi after almost a year and mainly because they emailed me a $20 coupon for my birthday. We showed up in two for dinner at around 6:30 on a Saturday and the place was mostly empty. We sat at one of the high tops in the bar to watch college football. Ordered a spicy ponzu roll $22, a steak teriyaki bowl $29 and a spicy garlic ramen. Everything was fine until then although I was surprise as how dead the place was on a Saturday night. After about 20 mins our food arrived. We got the roll and the steak terriyaki but there was no ramen in sight. The sushi was ok. Not a lot of fish on it and the jalapenos were also very skimpy. The steak was overcooked even though my son ordered it medium. After about 15 mins, we inquired about the ramen. The waiter went to check on it and it arrived 5 mins later. Over all the food was mediocre. Definitely not worth the price. After dinner we asked the server to use our coupon but were told that the coupon is only valid Monday -Thursday. He then went out to show me the disclaimer that was on the bottom of the coupon which you have to scroll down three pages to get too. I am not sure why this could be written clearly and also why the expiry in on a Sunday if the coupon is not valid on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Just doesn’t make sense. The waiter went and asked the manager whether he would still honor the coupon, and he came back and said no. A small gesture would be have gone a long way to change our experience. At the end of the day the point of the coupon was to make the customer happy and bring us in more often. Even if the coupon has a disclaimer, when you restaurant is more than half empty, why wouldn’t you honor it and make the customer happy…now you have lost me forever and likely more people who hear about my experience.

It’s been a hike since we have come to RA Sushi. We have been to this location multiple times when we lived in Irvine 10+ years ago. The decor of the restaurant hasn’t changed since they opened this place when the district shopping center was opened in 2007 or there so. Service was mediocre. We had reservations and they sat us promptly. Our server was very pushy and started by talking to our kids about their mock tails even though onbvioslu they weren’t interested. I told him I don’t drink because I am driving and he kept suggesting to my wife to order the bigger beer bottle so she can share with me. Our food came out any different times. Chicken Katzu came out first without the steam rice and miso soup. Likely 15-20 minutes later the two sushi rolls out. 5 minutes later the sushi burrito and another roll and finally my steak and chicken hibachi. We had complained to another waiter after we had to wait such a long time after the chicken Katzu for the rest of our food and she said that their kitchen was busy! Oh talk about a salesy waiter. I wanted a fillet mignon hibachi and he kept telling me that I should get filet and colossal shrimp combo ;). My steak and chicken was great. Steak was cooked perfectly and chicken was tasty however the fried rice tasted sour and funny. The tools were ok and chicken Katzu was nothing to write home about. Lots of interesting patrons with interesting choice of attire.
They also need to hire more workers because there was a wait for everything since 1 person was responsible for way too many tables
We ate outside/patio and it was wonderful. Our server was attentive and always checks on us. Surprisingly, not a lot of people come here for happy hour but it got busy for dinner.
Great place!
Amazing selections that we ended up having to be rolled out.
When it comes to sushi it’s hard to get a five star because you really need to have fresh and I mean fresh fish. Ra always is on top of that part we have eaten here a few times and have never been disappointed.
The Monkey roll hands down is my favorite but so many other options always keeps you testing and wanting more.
To top it off they bar is alway creating something new and always seems to be in a garnish war with another bar or something because they are creating artwork in a glass.
If you are debating and checking out reviews for sushi well stop now and head on into Ra they will not let you down!
