I got pupusas and the chopped cheese. This thing is packed with meat.
Second visit:
Empanadas very good!
Pineapple pork sandwich is just okay. It’s not on a pineapple bun like the menu says and it’s not glazed. Doesn’t fit the vibe of extra large ny sandwich when you compare it to the chopped cheese.
Lowered my rating to reflect the second visit
I ordered the Pernil, which came out hot and impossibly tender. The shredded mojo roasted pork was packed with flavor, rich, savory, and well seasoned. The rice and black beans were the perfect comforting base, and the sweet plantains added that little touch of caramelized sweetness that balances everything out.
I also tried the Ropa Vieja, and wow, this is the kind of dish that transports you straight to a Cuban restaurant in Miami. The shredded flank steak was simmered to perfection in a deeply flavorful tomato sauce with peppers and onions, soaking into the rice and beans underneath. Every bite was pure comfort. The tostones on the side were golden and crispy, perfect for scooping up every last bit.
Everything came out fresh, hot, and clearly made with care. You can really taste the love that goes into the cooking here. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the food never disappoints.
One small note though, one of the servers was still learning the ropes, so just remember to be patient and kind. They were working hard to make sure everyone was taken care of, and it’s great to see local businesses giving people the chance to grow.
If you’re craving authentic Latin comfort food that feels like home, Queens Comfort Latin Kitchen is absolutely worth it. Highly recommend. Five stars all the way 🙂
We each got tacos (3 beef and 3 Birria) & would highly recommend. The Birria tacos were the best I’ve had anywhere (and I order them a lot!)
Highly recommend!

Welcoming
When you’re in downtown Richmond, *Queen Comfort Latin Kitchen and Cocktails* is an absolute must-visit!
The food is incredible, with some of the best *tacos* I’ve ever had. The *chicharrón tacos* were crispy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned, and the *birria tacos*? They were absolutely top-notch—rich, tender, and packed with flavor. Each bite was better than the last!
The *service* is also fantastic—staff is friendly, attentive, and really makes you feel at home.
The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a meal with friends or family.
Pair your tacos with one of their delicious cocktails for the full experience. If you’re in the area, don’t miss out on this gem—definitely coming back!
Pictures are Spanish Harlem (bacon added), The Big Bodega, The Cod Father and Pupusa & Eggs. The hash browns
We also tried the plantains and they were spot on—crispy edges, soft inside, just the right amount of sweetness. Service was quick, everyone was friendly without being fake, and the vibe in there was just fun. Eclectic decor, but in a way that works.
We’ll 100% be back and will be bringing friends next time!
However, the rest of our experience was notably substandard. Our waitress was quite simply poor: unenthusiastic, uninformative, and she ignored us. Given that there was one person at the bar and only one other table occupied, her disinterest in working was striking. There was no other wait staff, so we were stuck with her.
The food was “meh.” My chicken and rice dish was a 4 of 5, decent but not exceptionally tasty. My partner’s vegetarian dish was nothing more than rice and beans. They do not have good vegetarian options on the menu.
We were disappointed enough that we went out to dinner at another restaurant for a replacement meal. I note that most reviewers had a better experience, so maybe we just had one bad night there.
I can’t say enough good things. Food was great! It was hot, quick, and they were able to make a substitution for me no problem. Latino classics, New York classics, and great specials for lunch. The place feels like home even if you’re not a New Yorker, especially thanks to Carlos’ service and kindess! There’s homages to city life, latino cultures, and everything that makes a corner bar or diner delightful. Can’t wait to go back and bring my family to this little vibe of a spot. Plus it’s a great little spot next to a book store and antique store, perfect for a date night.
