If you’re heading to a show at Allstate Arena and want something different from the usual chains, Que Bola Cuban Cafe is a hidden gem worth the short detour!

After a quick search for authentic spots nearby, we gave this place a try—and we’re so glad we did.

Service: 5 stars. We were warmly welcomed and felt attentively taken care of from the moment we walked in.

Food: 5 stars! Everything tasted fresh and made-to-order. The Jibarito Churrasco was our standout—the skirt steak was incredibly tender, and the green plantains were fried to perfect crispiness without a hint of grease. But the real star? Their special garlic sauce. It was so addictive I seriously wanted to drink it!

From the appetizers, the Maduros Fritos were some of the best I’ve had: lightly fried sweet plantains with just the right natural sweetness.

Highly recommend— we’ll be back!

Que Bola Cuban Café (Des Plaines) just gets it — big Miami vibes, fun décor, and comfort food that hits the spot.

We tried a little bit of everything and honestly, there wasn’t a miss. The ropa vieja was super tender and flavorful with that slow-cooked, savory richness you want (and it paired perfectly with the rice/beans). The surf & turf was such a solid “treat yourself” plate — juicy steak with garlicky herb sauce plus shrimp on top… it looked amazing and tasted even better. The Cubano sandwich was pressed perfectly: warm, crispy bread with layers of pork/ham and all the classic Cuban flavors in every bite.

For appetizers, the yuca rellenas were crispy on the outside and soft inside (comfort food in snack form), and the mariquitas con mojo were addicting — thin, crunchy plantain chips with a bright garlicky mojo that made us keep reaching back for “one more.”

And don’t skip the drink: the non-alcoholic piña colada was creamy, sweet, and so refreshing — basically dessert in a cup.

If you’re in or around Des Plaines and craving Cuban, Que Bola is 100% worth a visit. Great variety, bold flavors, and a vibe that makes you want to stay a while. ✨

We literally walked in at 7:40 PM when they close at 8, and not only did they still let us dine in — they welcomed us warmly and took amazing care of us the entire time. That alone deserves recognition.

The food was absolutely incredible — fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with intention. I’m honestly shook because it’s hard to find a place that delivers this level of quality AND hospitality, especially so close to closing time.

Huge shoutout to the team for going above and beyond. We’ll absolutely be back and recommending this place to everyone. ️✨

Looking for something unique to eat in the area that isn’t a chain. Looked this up and saw all the awesome reviews. No lies were told. Cute and vibrant strip mall spot with nice variety of Cuban eats.

Got the Bandeja Que Bola…because a sampler plate is always after my heart! I want to try a little bit of everything and this is exactly what this platter was! Also got the Lechon Asado! Portions were immaculate and all tastes were on point! Can’t wait to go back and try some other goodies!

We’re had the steak and pork chops (please forgive me, I don’t remember the appropriate names) and it was delicious! The plantains were sweet, the Puerto Rican rice was delicious and the meat was flavorful. We also had some Caribbean sodas that were awesome. Will be returning!

Delicious food, great environment, and excellent service. My husband and I ordered two different sandwiches (cubano and chimichurri steak), trio empanadas, and maduros, they were amazing. Also, Celeste was so nice and she made our first visit such a nice experience.
100% recommended!

First time visiting this wonderful, authentic Cuban restaurant, but definitely not our last! Owner Marco and our server Natalie were both so kind. The appetizers, meal and dessert were delicious. Between the four of us, we tried many different items on the menu. Both eat-in service and takeout were efficient. For a Monday evening, I can’t believe how busy they were, especially takeout. Highly recommend.

Everything here was amazing from the service to the coffee oh my out of this world the best Cuban restaurant in all of Illinois.
I have tried different places but this one here is beyond my expectations! 20/10 the food was delicious, their coffee is so tasty way different then any other coffee I have ever tried! Their Jibaritos was out of this world I am super happy my friend brought me here! The desserts are delicious as well I definitely recommend this place! It’s small but there is so much to see here even their bathroom was very different in a good way! We met Juan who I’m assuming is the owner was very humble and pleasant!

I’m Cuban. I have family in Miami. I cook a lot of lechon for my friends. So Cuban food is life for me. Qué Bolá is a small cafe with a great menu. I ordered a cafe con leche to start off which was perfectly sweetened and frothed. I drank it with croquetas de jamon and a picadillo empanada: both blasting with flavor. My main dish was lechon asado, which you can tell the pork was taking a luxurious bath in mojo all day, it was so tender and well seasoned. It came with a rice of my choosing and I asked for congri rice which was too dry for my liking. I got a side of mofongo that was made perfectly with just the right amount of chicharrones. Then I finished my meal with a pastilito of guava and cheese. Chef’s kiss. The only improvement I wish this place would implement is at least one more server to help out because I went on a Tuesday afternoon and it was super busy making for a long wait. But Marcos and his dad in the back are doing great on the food and hospitality. I look forward to going back!
