Puddin – Southern Comfort food was really, really, good. They gave me and my girlfriend’s samples of everything on their menu. I don’t even like bread pudding but there’s was really good. The only reason I didn’t get it, is because I’m on a healthy diet plan right now, but babbbbbyyyyy them shrimp and grits I devoured that bowl.

$14.00 for some yummy goodness. We went down after our Bollywood work out from up stairs and got some yummy food. I highly recommend this spot. You will not be disappointed. The staff was so friendly, we all were smiling and laughing as we were sampling and running our mouths . I will be going back Friday.

The customer service is 5 star! They are a NO CASH establishment.

The bread pudding is NOT authentic bread pudding. They serve bread soaked in butter with a hint of vanilla and cinnamon. Southern bread pudding has fruit (apples or peaches) raisins and sometimes nuts like pecans or walnuts. This taste and looks more like monkey bread.

They do serve it with icecream, but I declined as it was to cold outside. Overall it was very greasy.

I spent Valentine’s Day solo this year and decided to treat myself to a visit to Union Market. While walking around, I was drawn to Puddin, and I’m so glad I stopped.

The young woman working there was incredibly friendly and upbeat, with a radiant smile that immediately lifted my mood. She took the time to explain the menu and offered samples, which made the experience feel welcoming and personal.

I decided on the shrimp étouffée, and it was absolutely delicious – rich, flavorful, and exactly as promised. Between the excellent food and the outstanding customer service, this was easily one of the highlights of my visit.

I’ll definitely be back and look forward to trying dessert next time. Highly recommend.

We had already eaten elsewhere (unfortunately) and then my husband suggested we try bread pudding from Puddin’ and I said “I’m not the biggest fan of bread pudding”… and then I tried this one!!! WOW!!! I want more!! One of the most delicious sweet treats I’ve ever had! I am SO SAD that I don’t live anywhere near Virginia. I told my husband we will be back for more bread pudding before we leave D.C. and I will also be getting their food next time. I’m going to dream of that bread pudding. Also- the workers at the union market locations were absolute angels.

Unbelievable. This food is so good, I could cuss. I got the red beans n rice and my friend got the shrimp étouffée. Both were 10/10. Plus the service makes it even more amazing. Everyone was so friendly and they even let us try a sample before we decided. Oh and the BREAD PUDDING! I will definitely be coming back!

I ordered the shrimp and grits and it was excellent. We stayed in an airbnb so we ventured over to Union Market each day to try a new vendor. While the portions may look smaller, the size is deceiving! I was impressed with the amount of shrimp that was included. I would definitely go back to try one of their desserts. This is a bit pricier vendor, so keep that in mind before making your final selection.

Outside of terrible service, the food was NOT authentic Louisiana food and I’m from Louisiana born and raised. I tried the gumbo and it wasn’t gumbo, more like jambalaya soup or something. All in all, don’t recommend bc of bad food and service. Please do better especially as a black business. I would’ve been okay taking a loss with bad food but the service is what prompted this review. It wasn’t busy or anything either, just overall disappointing.

Puddin’: Dessert So Good It Should Come With a Warning Label

This isn’t bread pudding. This is a religious experience disguised as dessert.

One bite and suddenly I was speaking fluent Cajun, blessing strangers on the street, and googling “how to legally marry brown sugar.” The bourbon sauce didn’t just coat the pudding—it baptized me. Butter? Forget “food group,” at Puddin’ it’s basically the mayor.

Texture report: velvety, luscious, and toe-curling. Rich enough to make you question capitalism, but somehow light enough that I convinced myself calories don’t count if you eat it standing up.

The staff? Warm, welcoming, and absolutely unfazed when I started crying into my spoon. Portions? Generous enough to feed your whole family… but good luck sharing. I tried once and nearly lost a relative.

By the time I finished, I wasn’t just full—I was spiritually reborn. Honestly, NASA should investigate, because this might be the best pudding in the known universe.

Final verdict: Cancel your dinner plans. Cancel your therapist. Just eat this pudding and achieve enlightenment.

Had the Étouffée over grits, which gave more heat than the shrimp and grits. It was wonderful. The brown butter bourbon bread puddin’ with ice cream was an excellent finish to the meal. Great service as well. Appreciate the samples.
