Perfect! It has been years since I have had a dining experience that I would call perfect from start to finish. Public fish and oyster is awesome. Oysters Rockefeller was beyond delicious. Fish special was unique and very tasty. Drink was great. Server Chanel was so kind, attentive and welcoming. I will gladly drive the hour and 45 minutes to go back to this place.

A great variety of oysters. Very delicious food and customer service is exceptional. Manager came over and made sure everything was right with our table. My steak came out medium rare instead of medium and they acknowledged it right away before I even thought about saying something and they took care of us. We really appreciated the service and attention to detail in this. They care about their guests.

Mercy me! This restaurant is phenomenal! We had an amazing dinner here with our daughter who attends UVA and her teammate who was celebrating her birthday. I love the menu and wanted to order one of everything. We had oysters (super fresh), Pei mussels with a lemon coconut broth that was delicious, the hodgepodge, salmon, crab cake sandwich, peel and eat shrimp with Old Bay seasoning, clam chowder, and calamari. It was all wonderful, except the calamari that had a sweet sauce that I didn’t my really care for. We had the Patz & Hall Chardonnay that paired perfectly with all of the food. We finished with a root beer float for the birthday girl. So fun! Public is officially our new favorite restaurant in Charlottesville. We will be back!

I found a red lipstick stain on my water glass which wasn’t a good start but was quickly replaced by the waitress. The food was delicious. We got the oysters, clam chowder, crab cakes, calamari, and key lime pie for dessert. I recommend all those dishes.

Absolutely loved this place!! I have never had raw oysters before and tried two fire lake oysters and fell in love. Food was delicious and we had a good time sitting at the bar and talking with our server John and Kirby! Kirby opened up so many oysters in front of us during our meal. We saw everything from behind the scene and knew that everything is freshly prepared!

Our new favorite spot in Charlottesville! Service and food blew our expectations out of the water. Such a unique and delicious cocktail list as well. We can’t wait to make this a regular spot. Make sure to get the root beer float for dessert!

Quite impressive crab cakes. Very fresh oysters although they are extremely salty for my taste. The best was “low brine” description. Service was below par.

If you are an oyster fan or like a good lobster roll Happy Hour here can’t be beat. Get there early, place is on the small side and fills up fast with locals in the know and lucky tourists like us. Solid and diverse selection of east coast oysters, very fresh super tasty. For non-oyster lovers or anyone who is a lobster fan they have a happy hour only choice of lobster rolls in Maine (cold) and Connecticut (warm) styles that absolutely hit the spot. The full menu is also available. Beer, wine, and drink specials made by a friendly and obviously experienced bar staff round out the happy hour nicely.

We arrived around 7:30pm on a Monday night. Took about 30 mins for my partner to receive his cocktail. We got our oysters at 8:45pm. The server told us that the kitchen would close at 9pm, so we weren’t able to order dinner. Food is pretty good, but the service was so disappointing, cannot recommend, esp after paying $130 for a few cocktails and oysters that took an hour to arrive. I imagine you’d get better service at the bar, we sat outside.
