The food and drinks were actually very good. The Black Cod was surprisingly flavorful, as I usually find cods to be boring. The duck meat was cooked properly, except, the skin was chewy and non edible. It would have been much better if they made the skin crispy.
The crispy polenta was tasty, and paired well with the balsamic vinaigrette, although I think it would have been even better if they used a very thick balsamic as opposed to the liquidy version.
The salad was fresh, nothing to complain about
But many restaurants fall to the same trap: dessert. To be fair we only ordered 1 dessert but suffice to say: do not order that Dubai Chocolate Cookies. It was less than pedestrian. Your store bought Oreos probably tasted better. I hate to be harsh but it was that disappointing.
But other than that, I would recommend this restaurant, just get a different dessert, or get it somewhere else altogether

This was a great stop. The staff was very sociable. The drinks were outstanding! These are among the best drinks I have had. The smell of the food walking by was mouth watering. The food was cost more than we expected. I can understand why after going in and seeing the quality that they put out. Some how my crispy polenta didn’t make it into the pics but I would recommend it to anyone.

We ate at Provender Kitchen on 2nd October 2025 while visiting Ellsworth from the UK. We have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the UK and would rate our meal at Provender Kitchen as one of the best meals we have had. Both the food and drinks were exceptional. The atmosphere has a real buzz about it. The staff were very attentive and polite. We would highly recommend Provender Kitchen for an enjoyable evening out.

I would say a hidden gem of the area. But considering how busy it was at 430 im glad we made a reservation in advance. This restaurant would fit right in all downtown food cities like Boston, NYC, Chicago. Great atmosphere and 5 star food and chef. If you find yourself in Ellsworth Maine don’t miss this amazing spot.

After leaving Table Salt in Bar Harbor abandoning the worst meal and service I’ve ever had – we came here! It was my birthday and we weren’t giving up!
This was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in years. Service, food, seating – everything was five stars. Thank you so much for saving what originally started as a horrible birthday. It’s also difficult when you’re often dining with an accomplished chef, and she even said this was the best meal she had had in years.

Traveled to Provender on a whim… zero regrets followed. Unaware that reservations may be required, my traveling companion and I entered around 7pm on a Saturday night. Realizing the gross oversight on my part, we anticipated waiting for an available table or perhaps even, not being able to be seated given the volume of guests already present. However, the hostess rapidly obliged our walk-in, and we were seated and sipping beverages within 10 minutes.
Our waitperson was excellent. Attentive but not overly so, which is a welcome experience. The food? I can’t even express how delicious.
App was peaches and heirloom toms with maple sugar and whipped dairy. It was beautiful. Balanced, heavenly. A love letter to simple, well cared for ingredients.
My companion enjoyed their vegetarian pasta very much. I had the guajillo short-rib with Hatch chili polenta. I cannot adequately describe how divine this was. At one point, the hostess offered me a knife for my protein before I began eating. A nice gesture, but unnecessary. The short-rib was velveteen and truly perfectly executed.
I live in, but do not hail from, northern New England. It is a real struggle to find flavorful, thoughtful dishes up here – and I will admit that I was NOT expecting to have, hands down, the most delicious thing I have eaten in a decade in the quaint town of Ellsworth. When our meal was complete, it was almost sad. Like a rewind button was needed so that we could enjoy it all over again.
It has been a week since the unexpected DELIGHT of this place and this meal… and I’m still fantasizing about the polenta.
I don’t often leave reviews, because after 20+ years in the industry, I personally dislike them. But Provender gets all the stars.

Provender is a cut above the rest, hands down. Everything is flawless – but you need to try the mussels, the burger and the chicken parm with a side of pasta (if you’re lucky enough to go while it’s on the menu). The torte was also wonderful for dessert.
It is clear how much the chef and all of the staff really care, down to the freshness of every single ingredient. There is no restaurant in town that even comes close.

My husband and I had the pleasure of celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary at Provender Kitchen + Bar. Chef Daron noted our allergies and created an amazing chef selected menu with a discounted price. We love all food, so we were open for anything, even octopus. I am allergic to gluten going out to dinner lost its luster years ago and that is one reason why we have not been on a date in over 10 years, besides life. He served all the courses with a rundown of the dish, I forgot to get pictures of all the courses, we were so in the moment we made a rule not to use our phones. The atmosphere is amazing, the interior woodwork makes the whole experience that much more memorable. Waitstaff is attentive did not have to ask for a thing. The food quality is top notch cooked to perfection, not sure if takeout would do it justice depending on the dish. We looked at other dishes being served as well they all looked delicious; we will be back! Our 20th anniversary will forever be cherished due to the thoughtfulness of Chef Daron and his exceptional staff.

Last night a gang of six of us showed up with no reservation, each thinking the other had made the arrangements. From start to finish the hostess, the staff, and the bartender were the most accommodating, understanding and professional team. The appetizers (especially the mussels) and the mains (especially the chicken parm and the steak) were superlative, followed by delicious creme brûlée (just the right texture). Fantastic meal from start to finish and truly appreciated service! Thank you Provender!
