With all of that said, Kaitlyn asked what we were looking for, for our dinner. Likes, dislikes etc. I commented on looking for a great Prime Rib, and recent Brussel sprouts that we had on vacation in FL. I mentioned we planned to try the cauliflower to compare to another restaurant in the area. I also mentioned that we had had the Bone marrow recently and loved it.
Upon arrival, we felt immediately welcomed. We walked in to our table with a bouquet of flowers to take home, a nice handwritten card, and the craziest part, a CURATED MENU! Just for us! (We also were presented with the regular menu, just in case-we did not even open it!) We had the marrow, but it it came with tartar this time. And If I could use a drool emoji I would, but laptops lol. We had the firecracker cauliflower and it was absolutely perfect! Perfect breading, light, thin, crispy. The Cauliflower was cooked perfectly. And it was not drowning in sauce! That can get overwhelming, and if you plan to take leftovers, too much sauce just ruins it! We did take some home, but it did not make it overnight. 🙂 SOOOO Delicious! We both had a house salad that was very fresh and the perfect amount of veggies. The PRIME RIB! wow! That was the STAR of the meal. Perfectly cooked and gorgeous! Just look at that picture! (I forgot to snap one before I dug in 🙂 And the Brussels sprouts, NAILED IT!!!! The truffle mash melted in our mouths! We opted for the Cheesecake as well, but brought home to our daughters who made quick work of it!
Our Server Braxtyn was top notch! And apparently her 2nd service! I would never have guessed. She was courteous, attentive, and very efficient! I grew up serving and have worked fine dining to ihop. I notice the little things, which to me, as a guest are nearly the most important part of the experience.
I cannot say enough about Kaitlyn and ALL of the staff at Prime. I would HIGHLY Encourage you to seek her out, and Prime for your next special occasion. Why NOT make it memorable and feel like VIPS! For me, experience trumps cost. We knew we would spend more than average, and we were certainly ok with it. For us, it was the best anniversary dinner we have ever had. We plan to use Prime for our next special occasion! Thank you again! <3
We went back to the table and the server had finally arrived and began taking drink orders.
Drinks finally came out about 15-20 minutes later.
That would be the last time anyone came around and asked for drink refills until after we were almost done eating.
As for eating, we were informed that the were out of the aged ribeye when someone tried to order this advertised meal. The walleye was a very small portion and for a fish that should be white and flaky with almost bland, this fillet was pink and very fishy tasting.
The salmon with stuffed crab was very good. The stuffed crab saved the meal as it offered great flavor to a little over cooked salmon. The asparagus and potatoes had clearly been warmed up in a microwave, but they were fine.
Those that ordered steaks said even though they ordered medium rare to medium, all steaks showed up medium to medium well. When I spend 60-80 dollars on a steak I do expect it to be cooked how I order it.
The biggest disappointment of the meal (besides being out of the ribeye) was the tomahawk steak. For 160 dollar piece of meat it was deemed “just ok” by a guy who orders these often. The steak was cooked well but some portions were inedible due to the fat and gristle.
The highlight of the meal was probably the burger. The burger was perfectly done, melted in your mouth and had great flavor. This was the one thing I personally ordered and I was not disappointed. The least expensive thing on the menu was probably the best tasting option.
Now onto the service and bill:
Service was not good at all. We truly felt that our group would be making an ambitious server’s night! We travel a lot and when we have a night free from young kids we will order several expensive drinks, dinner and desserts and we tip between 25-35% for
Good service.
We were offered a second chance at ordering drinks when most were already done with their meals. (While looking around and trying to hale down our server throughout dinner) No one asked if we would like dessert and it seemed all she wanted us to do was leave as quickly as possible. We did notice that there was a “standard gratuity” of 20% which was added to each of our bills. (This is fine and very customary) It seemed that our server felt she didn’t need to be friendly, personable or attentive as she was happy to get 20% on what would be close to a 1500 dollar bill.
With a little smile and hustle this bill could have easily been 3000 and without the auto gratuity we would have tipped even better.
This place has potential but they need to get people who appreciate someone willing to spend high dolllar in a small town.
Update: over the past six months I have came here a few times trying to get the same quality I had when the restaurant first opened and it has not happened. I was told they changed cooks and it is very very evident. The steak isn’t as good anymore. The Gorgonzola butter is just melted butter with a bunch of Gorgonzola at the bottom it’s not made into a cream like it was at the beginning. The steak is not nearly as thick and juicy. I can make the same steak that they have now at Lunds and make it in my grill. It’s sad!
As far as the food. I got the Walleye and Chips. The fries were decent but my walleye was fried hard and the inside was pink in color and not flakey at all. I’m not a fish expert, but I was expecting to at least be able to chew it and I could not.The others got a BLT and French Dip and they said theirs was good. I felt like for the amount of money we paid for our lunch I would have expected a little better from the service to the actual food.
Wague baseball sirloin was chewy and some bites were not palatable. Salad good. Wait staff friendly but seemed to ask same questions over again. Good wine!!!
