Reviews
Menu on their website is severely outdated displaying lower prices than what they had.
The cashier overcharged me and conveniently forgot my receipt so I had to request one to get my money back. The manager even gave me attitude and didn’t even apologize for their screw up. Don’t waste your money here
It’s an order at the counter spot and has a sizable breakfast menu. My colleague ordered the omelette and I went with the Biscuits & Gravy Combo with Bacon. My colleague said she liked her omelette. As for my Biscuits & Gravy, it was a split decision for me. The sausage gravy was really good, but the biscuits were exceptionally firm and a bit chewy. The eggs were fine and hash browns were good. The drip coffee was good.
As for service, the staff was adequate, but not really into conversation. The restaurant had ample seating both inside and out.
I’ve come here about 8-10 times over the past year and each time I have never once been greeted with anything close to a friendly and welcoming attitude by anyone working the front counter area. Everyone seems sullen and depressed and as if the customer is a burden.
The espresso is sub-par but not due to the beans or the roast, rather the staff seems under trained: espresso is followed up with hot water from the rinsed shot glasses (why?), milk is over steamed and lacks texture. I haven’t bothered ordering coffee at all the last two times I’ve stopped by.
The food has overall been very good but it seems to take a long time, so expect a wait if you want anything from the kitchen.
Pastries are great and probably the only thing worth stopping by in my opinion.
I wanted to like this place because there’s a dearth of good espresso in Federal Way, but I cannot.
UPDATE: Poverty Bay must have hit the poverty line with our meals. 2 weeks ago the portion sizes and quality was amazing. This morning, we came back and it was like they were trying to limit our portion sizes. We ordered 4 of the same dish and it looks like you made one dish for every 2 orders. I’m not complaining about the QUALITY. The QUANTITY leaves a lot to be desired. If you look at the photos below, you can definitely see there is LESS food per dish vs. 2 weeks ago.
In addition, my wife said her cappuccino was mostly foam.
What happened Poverty Bay?
Previous review: Wonderful cafe tucked away from everything. Staff were friendly and welcoming.
We ordered a hot mocha and a cold mocha, and it didn’t disappoint. Just enough coffee and chocolate mixture.
For food, my daughter ordered the 1/2 BLT. The bacon was very flavorful and the sandwich was substantial if you don’t want a big meal.
I ordered the corned beef hash breakfast plate. The corned beef mix DID NOT come from a can. The chunks of potatoes, peppers, onions, and corned beef were excellent with the eggs and side of toast.
