SCATHING REVIEW: Potbelly Sandwich Shop, BWI Airport (Concourse A)

As an airport employee I frequent this store a lot. However, Avoid this location at all costs unless you enjoy paying airport prices for a side of contempt with your meal. This establishment has mastered the art of sucking any semblance of joy or hospitality out of the airport travel experience.

From the moment you approach the counter, you are treated as an inconvenience. The staff, particularly the pregnant employee with two nose piercings, operates with a perpetually nasty attitude that is both unprofessional and astounding. Her demeanor isn’t just unfriendly; it’s actively hostile, making a simple transaction feel like a confrontation.

My visit was a masterclass in incompetence and poor service:

1. Misinformation from the Start: I specifically asked the young man, Jeffery, if they offered “Skinny Sandwiches.” He said yes. This was the only reason I placed my order—a Prime Rib with extra meat, adding red peppers and mushrooms before toasting.
2. Order Botched: The sandwich emerged from the oven visibly lacking the extra meat I ordered and paid for. Already pressed for time, I couldn’t wait for a correction.
3. The Register Deception: At checkout, the aforementioned pregnant employee charged me for a regular sandwich. When I stated I intended to use my points for the “Skinny” version I was told existed, she flatly declared, “We don’t do skinny sandwiches.” When I recounted Jeffery’s confirmation, she engaged in a pointless, dismissive back-and-forth. The customer service mantra of “the customer is always right” is clearly considered a joke here. The policy is apparently: argue with the customer until they surrender out of exhaustion.
4. The Icing on the Inedible Cake: I bit into a sandwich that was ICE COLD. The prime rib had the chilling, congealed quality of meat that had never seen the inside of the oven. When I inquired if the meat was frozen, the same employee tried to blame the “cold toppings”—a pathetic excuse for what was clearly a thoroughly unheated sandwich. The toppings I had requested to be added before toasting.

She did, with palpable irritation, offer to remake it. The remake was edible temperature-wise, but no amount of reheating could fix the chill of the service.

Final Verdict: This location is a black mark on the Potbelly name. The staff is poorly trained, shockingly rude, and utterly disinterested in customer satisfaction. The pregnant employee’s attitude is particularly disgusting and toxic. You are better off going hungry or eating packaged snacks from a newsstand than subjecting yourself to this combination of incompetence, false advertising, and outright hostility.

I will never set foot in this location again and will actively warn fellow travelers to do the same. A truly miserable experience.

I ordered 2 sandwiches $24, wreck and primerib. Slow service, they were out of grilled onions( only reason I ordered my sandwich)
I decided not to get the combo because the drinks were warm due to non-working cooler.
Food was lackluster. Im glad I got ketchup and drinks at the pizza place. Save yourself time and money go someplace else.

Incredibly rude staff on both occasions. Decent chicken pot pie soup and cookie though. I didn’t enjoy feeling like a burden, even with a polite and simple order.

Everyone in this establishment was the most UNPLEASANT females I have ever dealt with! The attitudes were unmatched and the one checking out on the register was absolutely HORRENDOUS! The refrigerator was down for the drinks so I asked for ice and she said “you gonna have to pay for that” and I said no maam its not my fault that your machine is down. She repeated herself “i said you gonna have to pay for that” and I said no I am not and she proceeded to walk again and said “Im not doing this with you “ and hopped up and sat on the counter with her arms crossed. absolutely UNREAL!! Will NEVERRRRRR go back

SOUP AND SALAD WAS DELICIOUS!
I haven’t been to a Potbelly’s in some time to avoid carbs, so I had no idea what a great soup and salad menu they have now.
I got the powerhouse salad and vegetable soup. Both hit the spot. Soup was hot and had a nice variety. Salad was a spinach base with sliced chicken, egg, avocado, hummus, cucumbers, and tomatoes. The fat free vinaigrette was just ok, what do you expect?
The staff was uber friendly and fast. Great experience all around.

My first time ever eating potbelly was at this location and it was a good experience. My second time was horrible. The girl taking my order was pleasant but the manager with dreads did not greet me and was moving very slow he had no sense of urgency when making my sandwich. He lacked customer service & made me not want to return. I don’t know how he got a manager position with that attitude towards customers that were nothing was nice & waited patiently even though there was only one person checking out in front of me & took over 10 mins for my sandwich.

Horrible customer service. The guy making the sandwiches just gave us a blank stare. The other workers making the sandwiches had no sense of urgency. From all the other reviews I’ve read about this place, it sounds like this is an ongoing trend that doesn’t seem to be getting addressed.

Rude, unprofessional, all of the workers had AirPods in and were listening to music and were yelling at us that they could barely hear us. Messed up several orders. The kitchen prep area was a disaster and looked extremely unsanitary. My sandwich was soggy and falling apart by the time I got it. They didn’t even cut it in half.

What can go wrong with a toasted hand made sandwich! For this review, absolutely nothing!
Sorry no pics this time, but our order were the original steak on the original white roll with Swiss cheese and the works, and the cubano on the original white roll, Swiss cheese and the works!
Did I mention they were toasted? Oh yeaaaaa!
Imagine a toasty culinary sandwich wizard turning humble slices of bread into warm, crispy masterpieces. With a sprinkle of creativity, a pinch of heat, and a dash of time, they transformed ordinary ingredients into mouthwatering delights. Both sandwiches can be described as the ultimate tasty adventure during our transfer between flights! ✨
Oh yes, did I mention again freshly tasted sandwiches rock!
