Old School! This is not a restaurant for self-identifying foodies, cranky Yelpsters or cry babies. We never chase the latest food fad. The salad greens don’t come with an ancestry report. Pot au Feu’s menu is the classic food of France’s villages, farmhouses, Grandmothers’ tables and Sunday afternoon dinners with friends. We have a full bar, wonderful classic cocktails, French wines and spaces for private parties and special events. Our 1875 building with stone walls, brick floor and heavy wooden beams is the perfect setting for a truly classic Bistro which opened in 1972. A favorite of Julia Child. Bon Appétit!
Serving traditional French bistro favorites in a somewhat high-end setting since 1972.

Service was fantastic. Came in for our reservations, was greeted promptly & the host/bartender asked for a minute. They wanted to make sure we were comfortably seated because i was so tall & they separate the tables by partitions. I’ve never had that, & loved the attention to detail.
Server was great and welcoming.
Wife & I split escargot & the wild mushroom soup to start. I’d go back just for that. Escargot wasn’t drowning in butter and it was wonderfully cooked. Mushroom soup was the best I’ve had. Apparently the chef specializes in mushrooms.
We had the Cassoulet a la Maison & Boeuf a la Bourguignon. Both were prepared very well.
I by know means go out of my way for french food but that was a great experience. Also it was our preferred ambience (quiet, dim).
First time diners.
We ordered the Escargots. We wondered where the garlic and butter was with this appetizer. This was the first disappointment on what was supposed to be a special evening.
My partner had the Fruits de Mer and she was disappointed by the quality of the sea food. The codfish was dry and overcooked, as well as the shrimp. The broth did not have much flavor. My partner is an accomplished cook, she was raised on the ocean and she knows her seafood.
I ordered the Pot au Feu. It came with a small amount of beef and chicken and entirely too much cabbage and potatoes. However, the large bowl of broth that came with it was flavorful. For the exorbitant prices charged at this establishment, we should have been able to count on a better experience.
The staff was very kind to us but it would not be inaccurate to call the atmosphere a bit outdated. The restaurant posts a warning on their website, which reads, “ Yelpsters, Self identifying foodies and crybabies, please, stay away.”
How insulting is this? All customers should be welcome. Excluding those who actually might know what good food is does not comprise a good business strategy. For a restaurant which is Road on a reputation for perhaps too long, we will not be returning. Our time in our dollars will be going elsewhere.
The Soupe a l’Oignon Gratinee was incredible and definitely one of the best we’ve ever had. For dinner, I had the Canard Roti et Confit Framboise and loved it, as well as a French martini and, of course, the creme brûlée.
My husband loved the Pot au Feu aux Fruits de Mer and claimed it was one of the best seafood dishes he’s ever ordered at a restaurant. My mom ordered the Boeuf a la Bourguignon and enjoyed her dish as well. All around we had a great experience with top notch service, and I even had my leftovers elegantly wrapped up in the shape of a tin foil duck, which I found to be a lovely touch. From start to finish, it was very evident that a lot of thought was put into every aspect of the dinner’s experience and it truly brought us back to our own dining experience in France years ago. We highly recommend!
His sharing of the same with his guests truly enhances the evening . In short we love everything about this gem of a restaurant .
