The restaurant itself is gorgeous. From the moment I walked in, I knew this place was going to be something special. From the decor and ambiance to the views of the river I felt like I was in a more sophisticated restaurant.
Wayne took great care of us and made sure we had everything we needed. It was extra special that we had the opportunity to meet and chat with the chef who was so warm and gracious.
Finally, the food! I selected a Blueberry Thriller Mocktail which I loved. It is so nice when restaurants have an actual mocktail menu – it really shows them going the extra mile. Bread (warm and fresh) came out quickly along with dipping oil. So good that I didn’t wantvto stop eating, but needed to leave room. The husband and I split the rollatini and the gnocchi pesto. Both were fantastic, but the eggplant rollatini really blew me away. All of the food we tried was fresh, delicious, and worth the cost (which honestly was not that bad comparatively).
Highly, highly recommend stopping here for a meal.
We will be back!
Highly recommended. If you are passing by this area, don’t miss this restaurant.
PS: I can’t recommend their amaretto sour enough, they make their amaro in house.
Immediately upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly, very personable bartender/hostess. We were worried about them being closed (or closing soon) due to the poor Maine weather, but she made us feel welcomed and, dare I say, warm. A great first impression.
Our waiter, Wayne, was beyond perfect. He was friendly, offered suggestions, had a great sense of humor, and was very patient with me. He was also attending but not overbearing. A great example is when my wife and I finished our bread and oil while waiting for our appetizer. He brought more bread because he “knew we would want it to mop up the sauce from our mussels.” He was 100% correct!
All this is great, but the absolute highlight is the food.
For the appetizer, we shared the Cozze Alla Sambuca (mussels ). Cooked perfectly! We literally used the bread to wipe every last ounce of the Sambuca herb sauce out of the bottom of the bowl. (Good call, Wayne!)
My wife ordered the Chitarrucci Frutti Di Mare (seafood in a garlic tomato herb sauce over squid ink pasta). Every piece of seafood was cooked perfectly. I helped myself to a few “samples,” and the shrimp was some of the best I’ve had in a while.
I ordered the Salmone Alla Mostarda (salmon in a creamy mustard sauce). Dear God! I’m old, and I love salmon; this is the best salmon I’ve ever eaten! When I go to restaurants, I tend to try different foods every time. When (not if) we go to Ports of Italy again, I’m getting the salmon again. Wow!
We finished the meal off with dessert. My wife got the chocolate tart and I got the tiramisu. We were both pretty stuffed at this point, but these both went down easy. If you like dense chocolate desserts, my wife gave the tart a great review. If you like a lighter dessert, the tiramisu is the way to go. Delicious!
Long story short, this is a great place. I highly recommend it. We will certainly be back!
Thank you!
