I was going grocery shopping at Kroger but I wanted to eat lunch first so I wouldn’t go shopping hungry. There are several restaurants right there in the Kroger shopping center and I’d never been to Portobellos before. When I went in there was one very large group having a birthday party but not many other people there. I was seated a the one waiting on me was also waiting on this large party. So I was patient with him. I got water and was looking over the menu. It was lunchtime and I didn’t want a lot. They have a very limited lunchtime menu. So I figure an Italian restaurant is only as good as its spaghetti is. So I ordered that and side salad. My salad was brought out. Looked big but it was mostly just lettuce for 3.00 extra. When the spaghetti and meat sauce came out it looked good. But it had no taste to it. It was watery tomato sauce and noodles. It had meat but I couldn’t detect any seasoning. I asked for salt, pepper and parmesan cheese to try and make it edible. I’ve had better spaghetti out of cans. Maybe there other dishes are better but I didn’t want to spend a big amount for lunch.

So we ordered Alfredo mushroom ravioli, lasagna and plain spaghetti with meat sauce. The mushroom ravioli was amazing and in copious amounts of awesome sauce that I could just drink with a straw given the opportunity. The lasagna though really wasn’t that fantastic I don’t know if maybe because it was delivered in tin trays but I felt like the sauce had a sort of metallic flavor to it. After plating it up I added some salt and onion powder and it seemed a little better it may have just been me I don’t know. My husband had the plain spaghetti with meat sauce and stated it tasted pretty good

It was a dark and stormy afternoon but the Glazed Salmon brightened my day!!! It was perfectly cooked, just a hint of crusties outside and juicy, flakey goodness inside. I wish I could report with the same exuberance on the bed of rice and the asparagus; my sides weren’t horrible by any means, just ok in comparison to the excellence of my fish. The asparagus was thick and “wibbley” such that I needed to use my knife to cut it. The flavor was good and I am sure most people would enjoy it but for me veggies shouldn’t be overly cooked or adulterated with lots of butter and/or sauce. Additionally, good asparagus should be be thin, not thick.

Tonight we ordered 2 large pizzas. One pizza had sausage & mushrooms and one had pepperoni on 1/2 & pepperoni & mushrooms on the other half. These were the best pizzas I’ve had in a very long time. I certainly will be ordering from them from now on. I also highly recommend them.

Being gluten free is no fun when you love Italian food. Portobellos has the most gluten free options AND the pasta was delicious. The server was amazing. 10/10 totally recommend.

Their Gluten free pasta is great. I had fettuccine Alfredo with grilled chicken. The penne pasta they used was tasty, not gritty or falling apart like most gluten free pastas. The sauce was delicious!

Great Pizza! Really tastes like it might be from New Haven, CT! Gluten free pizza is real good and doesn’t compromise much. Prices are good. The people have always been friendly. In terms of atmosphere, it’s a little dark inside usually, and the shopping center it’s in is pretty busy. And the parking lot is a little confusing.

The mushroom ravioli in an Alfredo gorgonzola sauce was delicious. The pizza and calzone were very good also. Visiting from out of town can make dinner selection a tough decision sometimes, so I am thrilled that I have found this place.
