The good:

The steaks are no-doubt some of the best we’ve ever had (the highest of compliments to the chefs).

The ‘choice of blades (steak knives)’ was a wonderful touch

All the food was exceptional (the beef dripping chips were out of this world).

The kitchen were super accommodating ie serving fries without truffle/parmesan. I know some kitchens can be a bit funny, but nothing was a problem for this crew.

They were really accommodating with us taking leftovers too! I ordered the wrong size of steak (for two). ‍♂️☺️

The bad:

The ambience is weird.

We were sat directly under a speaker blaring out music that didn’t feel like it fit the vibe. Also, being c.60cm from a toilet isn’t the best – especially as there were better tables elsewhere unoccupied for the majority of our time there.

The ugly:

I asked for us to be taken through each cut of steak – our waiter didn’t appear to know his stuff, was very vague and we were left not much the wiser. Moreover, he didn’t know the ingredients of one sauce (the Cafe de Paris butter), or an item in a dessert when asked -seriously, watercress?! I’m being harsh, the server was appropriately attentive, but this is my hard-earned money and special nights out like this aren’t cheap.

For c.£250 (for 2 adults, 1 young person) with only one glass of wine and a bottle of water, I expect much better.

Sad to say this was a wonderful meal but the experience didn’t meet expectations.

There’s a nearby place that has arguably similar quality of dishes (perhaps minus the chips) where one genuinely feels like their custom is valued more and the staff are far better trained.

A generous and disappointing 4/5 from me – only held up by the quality of the food / kitchen team.

Had dinner at Porter and Rye late February 2026 and the place was full on a Wednesday night… tells a story !

It was a business dinner with colleagues and having lived in Finneston about thirty years ago I was a bit apprehensive ! Wow was I wrong, apparently these guys are partially responsible for the gentrification of the area ! How many restaurants can make that claim !
The food… was literally the best meal I’ve had in as long as I can remember ! I tend not to have starters but the super friendly / helpful staff directed us towards some sharing starters… these were literally to die for … you must try the [small] tacos … to die for … each one is a delicate two mouthfuls … I couldn’t eat the second mouthful for five minutes because then it would be gone …the flavour was out of this world. Then followed by a fillet which was aged… they told me how long but I can’t remember … super super tasty. My colleague had a blue cooked fillet he’s a steak gourmet apparently and he made comment that it was it was THE best he’s ever had. In fact he became a bit of a bore about it and kept going on about how magnificent it was. The restaurant made some brilliant wine recommendations and we had an amazing night. The staff… well if you like staff that are trained to be robotic and 10 seconds after serving come round and ask “is everything ok” and then disappear before you can answer then Porter & Rye isn’t for you… they are well trained but are clearly allowed to let their own personality be on display and I loved it !

What could be “even better if” we’ll only thing that I can honestly say is from a selfish perspective… I now live in Edinburgh… so how about move to Edinburgh ! TBH my go to steak places in Edinburgh now seem a bit second class compared to P & R, even my favourite Morton’s in Hong Kong has now been toppled into second place.
Awesome

Note to the owner, knocked it out of the park is too often overused… but honestly … “you knocked it out of the park and we’ll be back” !

Thank you for an awesome evening…

This is one of our bucket list restaurants and it did not disappoint.
One you sweep past the curtain leading in to Port & Rye, the atmosphere is veryrrlaxed and cozy. As we were taken to our table you can drool at the aged meats in the cabinet up front, this was clearly a good sign of things to come.
Sirloin and chateaubriand were amazing, I actually can’t think of the words to describe it. Companied with chunky chips cooked in beef dripping, and a macallan whisky peppercorn sauce. Stunning.

The service was 11/10. Our server went above and beyond to make sure we had the best night possible. Helping us choose our steak knife, cuts of meat and accompanying wine with our meal. If customer service is a dying art she was the Da Vinci of it.

Fully recommended anyone to pay a visit as you won’t be disappointed. Definitely one of the best meals, and experiences, we have ever had.

Loved every single thing at Porter and Rye! Initially, we were running late due to traffic and the person on the phone offered to change our booking time to allow us to still go & have enough time for our meal. Me and my friend got the Friday deal and got one of the starters. My friend doesn’t have alcohol & they were happy to change the drink for a non-alcoholic one. The steak tartare starter was unreal!! Then the steak & sides arrived, a fantastic portion for a deal and everything cooked to perfection. Everything we had was so flavorful and the high quality. It was my birthday and the restaurant offered me a birthday sweet & prosecco along with desert that we ordered which you could tell was made fresh. The service was excellent, Rachel and the team took the best care of us & really felt spoiled. The atmosphere was also perfect, felt very intimate & calm. If we could give more stars we would. A big thank you!!

The quality, flavour & price makes this place a must.
We ordered Bavette steak with Port & gorgonzola blue dip, Rump steak with Bone Marrow & Black Truffle Butter, Lamb Tatiki, Garlic & Lemon Mixed Greens, Beef Dripping Chips, Truffle & Parmesan Fries and Miso Foraged Mushrooms & Crispy Shallots.
Everything was full of flavour and cooked to perfection.
Each dish can be altered for gluten-free dairy-free etc.
The staff were very nice and attentive.
I will definitely be back to try more on the menu.

Outstanding food – genuinely one of the best steaks we have ever had, so tender and cooked very well. We really enjoyed our meal, and we will definitely be back! All staff members we encountered were friendly, attentive and on the ball with everything! I love when you go somewhere that can be seen to be quite high end and fancy, and you get down to earth friendly service staff. I always appreciate it so much.

My only thing is that we got sat in the upstairs right at the speaker, it was quite noisy for the vibe, the waitress was understanding, and moved us. I’d also say the second table wasn’t ideal either but wasn’t noisy, we really fancied a seat at the window. I’d also say, I feel this place needs more chilled music, it was really bad music and cover versions that just weren’t good.

I’d have liked to have seen different desserts too, maybe a wee cheesecake, crumble or fudge cake. Most weren’t to my taste.

But generally we were very impressed. Loved it! Thanks for a lovely evening 🙂

Been to Porter and Rye a few times because we love it. The best chateaubriand around, cooked to perfection. Service was really spot on and the staff are polite and helpful. Highly recommend if you want a good steak experience.

My wife had the prime rib and I had the T-bone. My wife’s steak was superb! Mine was good, but didn’t rise to the price standard. The sides we ordered were great. The potatoes with horseradish, winter greens and smoked almond carrots were premium.

Very tasty charcuterie and the steak was cooked exactly as my (fussy) partner likes it. Loved the big fizz cocktail too. Attentive service and cosy atmosphere. It seemed like we may have been the only people not having Sunday Roast so we will need to come back soon to try that.

We stumbled upon this restaurant after enjoying the day in Glasgow and I am so happy we did. It has a twos story dining area with perfect lighting. The service was fantastic and they helped us pick the best options. The butter that went with the steak was perfect for the meal. If you’re in Glasgow, come to Porter & Rye, it is worth it. If I am ever visit Scotland again, I want to eat here!
