We’ve live fairly close to this spot but for some reason, it wasn’t on our radar until today.
The food wasn’t just ‘the obvious Mexican food selections’. They had some really interesting plates.
I had the Octopus Zarandeado with a Shrimp Ceviche appetizer, both were excellent.
The also had a few Fall drink specials which were meticulously assembled and equally delicious.
The place has a quaint, tucked away feel and the service was great.
If you’re looking for Mexican with a bit of a twist, definitely put Port Vida on your list.

This was our first restaurant in Newburyport and we were extremely satisfied. It was DELICIOUS. We got the Queso Fundido Chorizo for an app, and the cheese came bubbling hot. For entrees we got the Fish Tacos, Chicken Tamales, and the Mole Enchiladas. All 10/10. Definitely recommend if you get the chance to go!!

Stopped in with a small group on our way from visiting one of the nearby nature reserves/ hiking areas.

Staff was super friendly and helpful, food and drinks were amazing.

Greatly enjoyed the authentic Mexican food and some margaritas though my less adventurous nephew loved their mac and cheese and french fries as well.

Will definitely be stopping in again next time we are in the area.

As a fellow local restaurant owner, I don’t get the chance to come in as often as I’d like, but I’ve always had tremendous respect for this place since they first opened. I’ve enjoyed their food and drinks on several occasions, and today I stopped in for a quick bite between appointments.

I was completely taken off guard (in the best way) to see lobster offered as an option with guacamole and chips. I love both, but I’d never thought of pairing them — other than maybe in a lobster taco. I had to try it, and it absolutely blew me away. Honestly, it beats ordering a lobster roll, and it was one of the most refreshing meals I’ve had all summer!

This place is a hidden gem! Food is amazing and reasonably priced. Had the tortilla soup and a guava margarita absolutely delicious! Wish I lived closer, as this would certainly be my go to Mexican restaurant. Can’t wait to go back!

Most lovely place to eat! I tried the beef stew for my first time ever, and I’ll definitely get it again when I can return.

This place is a gem! The food was delicious, the drinks were too good, and the service was outstanding. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed – the staff was friendly, attentive, and super quick.

I had the veggie enchiladas with cheese sauce, paired with black beans and roasted spicy baby potatoes, and everything was bursting with flavor. The watermelon tequila was the perfect refreshing touch. So good, so yummy – I loved every bite and sip!

I’m definitely coming back. Highly recommend.!

Coming from the West Coast, where fresh, bold flavors are a part of everyday life, I’ll admit I walked into Porta Vida with high expectations — and this spot delivered in every single way. It’s rare to find a place that blends authentic coastal-inspired food, a welcoming atmosphere, and genuinely great people, but Porta Vida absolutely nailed it.

One of the highlights of the night was meeting the owner, who just so happened to be having dinner at the bar next to us. You can always tell when a place is run with pride and passion, and this casual conversation confirmed exactly that. It’s the kind of personal touch that sticks with you and shows the heart behind the business.

The ceviche was the star of the meal. Fresh, bright, and full of flavor, it transported me straight back to the kind of coastal spots I love on the West Coast. You could taste the authenticity in every bite — perfectly balanced citrus, tender seafood, and just the right kick of heat.

We also ordered the flautas, which were packed with flavor and cooked to crispy perfection. Every bite was savory, satisfying, and made with clear attention to detail — the kind of dish that hits the spot and leaves you craving more.

And the drinks? Absolutely top-tier. Whether it was a cocktail, margarita, or one of their specialty drinks, every sip was perfectly mixed and packed with flavor. Creative, refreshing, and honestly just plain fun — they know what they’re doing behind the bar.

What really rounded out the experience was the staff — friendly, funny, and down-to-earth. It felt like we were hanging out with old friends rather than being waited on. That kind of service makes you want to come back, and we did — just three days later! The second visit was just as great as the first, which says a lot about the consistency and quality this place offers.

All in all, Porta Vida gets a solid A+++ from me. Whether you’re a local or a West Coaster like myself, this place is worth every visit. Authentic food, awesome drinks, genuine service — what more could you want? I can’t wait to go back!

I really enjoyed my visit! The place looked fantastic with seating both outside and on the second floor! The staff was super friendly, and the service was speedy, which I really appreciated. I tried a burrito, and it was absolutely delicious! I had a few mixed feelings about the michelada, but overall, it was a great experience. My only tiny complaint is that they don’t offer the usual chips and salsa that you find at other Mexican restaurants; there’s an extra charge for those if you want them. But still, I had a lovely time!

One of the best birria tacos I’ve eaten. The sabor a Mexico with the salsas also were perfect. Would definitely recommend
