I am writing to express my support for Frigate and to address the influx of biased reviews recently posted. This shop is a staple of Port Jefferson, and it is disappointing to see its reputation targeted by reviews that focus on past political displays rather than the quality of the products and service.
The store offers an excellent selection, including gluten-free options, Indian Lassi beverages, milkshakes, smoothies, and a wide variety of healthy juices. There is no other place on the island quite like it. It is a must-visit destination for anyone in the area.
I urge Google to review and remove these biased ratings, as they do not reflect the actual customer experience or the quality of the business. I encourage others to ignore these reviews and appreciate this local establishment for the value it brings to the community.

I used to go to The Frigate several times each year even though I live in Westbury. It had decent candy. For nearly a decade now the store just keeps going down. The owner is loud and obnoxious and that does not boost its standing.

We’ve always liked this place, but we finally got doggy ice cream for Frida Panda which took our experience to the next level! We had a blast taking pictures and videos of her enjoying it. The staff were very friendly and explained how their doggy ice cream is made from safe products like cheese and peanut butter.

Amazing place…better than any Carvel, or Baskin Robin’s you will go. This is a very unique, personal place because you can see and taste everything that comes out of there is made with love and care. Ice cream is delicious, but it also has gelato, smoothies very unique candy, and even dog treats. So, if you are in the area, walking around, enjoying the day, come check them out.

literally the worst place. This used to be my favorite childhood memory ice cream/candy shop. the ice cream always taste like a freezer and the candy is always hard and just aweful. The OWNER is the nastiest person you will ever meet. just rude and thinks the world owes him something. I will never return. I used to eat here a few times
a year and always bring a friends and family here. anyone who would visit from out of town it was always a must to stop in with them. Not anymore it’s a shame it’s not what it used to be. OHHHH and the prices you have to take out a loan now to purchase a pound of stale candy. it is laughable the prices on things in there. Owner is truly taking advantage of people. it’s the same candy you can buy at shop right just he sells it in bins so it’s exciting for the kids. but charges 6 times the price. it’s a kids trap to rap the parents. don’t fall for this trap do not take your kids here.
Owner is so cheap he doesn’t believe
in using ac. on super hot days it’s hotter inside then it is outside. this place is just all around a horrible experience for anyone. I have spoke to the staff about this. they just laugh and say the owner is really cheap. one girl mentioned how he will not give out raises and they have a hard time keeping staff because of it.
stay away from this shop.

Large selection of sweet treats including gelato, candy, homemade ice cream, frozen yogurt, cakes, candies, chocolate even dog-friendly ice cream and more. Beware it is a little pricey and everything is done by weight but it feels like a real candy shop and that feeling is the best. Good quality shoppe for a bit higher prices. Over the past decade and a half I’ve shown so many people this, once great shop. The quality has degraded disgustingly. The staff can be incredibly rude, and apparently they don’t allow people to sample the ice cream? My 7 year old cousin asked to sample a flavor so that we can buy a flavor. I wish I was joking but the employee not only said they don’t allow it, but began describing the flavor as though it made up for it?! Comical.
Be very careful before paying! The price of the cookies I was buying was listed as $2.25 EACH. The workers took them and tried to charge me the price by weight? Sad.

A Disappointing Return to What Was Once a Childhood Favorite
This candy store used to be the heart of Port Jeff Village — a place filled with sweet treats and even sweeter memories from my childhood. I’ve always held a special place in my heart for it, which made my recent visit all the more heartbreaking.
The atmosphere has completely changed. From the moment we walked in, the mood was off. The workers seemed unhappy and disengaged, and the manager stood with arms crossed, closely watching my father and me as we simply browsed. It felt unwelcoming — like we were doing something wrong just for looking around.
On top of that, the temperature inside the store was unbearably hot — hotter than the summer night outside. It was stifling and uncomfortable, which made the experience even worse.
We decided to order ice cream, hoping to salvage the visit, but even that was a letdown. The “hard” ice cream was so soft it was melting before it even reached the counter.
It breaks my heart to write this, but I won’t be coming back. Some places are better left in memories, and sadly, this is one of them.
