Port City Java has been waking up Wilmington, NC since 1995. Nestled in the heart of historic downtown, our first café quickly became a hub for coffee lovers in the community. Our admittedly simple goals were to bring great, fresh-roasted coffee to our neighbors with the help of a charming but ever mischievous 15-kilo Ambex roaster. Port City Java has evolved and grown to operate over 30 cafes as well as its own bakery, roastery and distribution center since then. We look forward to seeing you soon!

So as far as the coffee and baristas go, 5/5 stars. They are wonderful employees. And honestly the drive thru is probably a 5/5 experience. I’m the type of person who likes to sit down in a cafe, and when I sit down I bring my devices and have need of an outlet. This location used to have several outlets. Now they have an outlet in one location where one table can reach it. Granted it’s a tower where multiple devices could plug into, but only two people can sit at that table. Two more people could awkwardly sit at the nearby table and do a socially awkward dance where they have to take on the introvert nightmare or interacting with a random person in public and asking them to please move so you can please plug your stuff in. I don’t know who’s choice it was or why to get rid of most of the outlets, but for me that makes sitting in the cafe a 2/5 experience for me. I’m giving them a 3 because I love the coffee and the employees. I will happily continue to go to other Port City Java locations quite regularly in the future and I highly recommend them. But if you’re like me and you’re looking for a coffee shop that’s nice to sit down inside, I don’t reccomend this location unfortunately. But if you’re just coming here for coffee, then I’d reccomend them (trying to be fair here!)

I used to go to this Port City Java about every week and for the last 3 weeks they haven’t gotten any pickled onions I’ve tried to order the pastrami bagel stack numerous times and they’re still out. I’m not sure what they have going on but where’s the manager at? Why aren’t they getting the ingredients they need? I’d understand if they were out and waiting for them to come in but it seems like no one’s trying to go get them. Spoke to someone on the phone and he said “Whenever we go and get them and we just haven’t” I’m really disappointed because that’s my favorite sandwich from them.

Stopped in for an organic decaf. After reading the reviews I had to check out the super scary gender neutral bathrooms. I went in and pottied, then my husband went in and pottied. Oddly enough it was exactly like the bathroom at my house!! The shock!! Lol. Great coffee big tables and friendly staff. Thank you to the management for providing a fantastic place to grab an organic decaf. I will be back.

Odd drive through experience. I order a croissant only and get to the window. Price was $5 plus tax but somehow my total included .50 cents more than on the sign. Okay, fine. But it got weird when the barista holds my change in the air and asks me if I wanted my change? Strange way to ask for a tip. The sandwich was hot and tasty but not appealing to the eye. Definitely a strange interaction. I should not be asked to tip while dangling my change. I would have tipped the $2 bills I had in my other hand if that didn’t happen. However, due to this odd interaction, I didn’t and will not be back. They didn’t even offer or give me napkins! All about that tip and the overcharge makes me wonder if the price o n the sign was in fact correct and I was overcharged for “tips”? Hmm.

Ordered the S’mores latte (iced). It was delicious, if you like sweet definitely try this, but hurry, it’s seasonal. The pastries were scrumptious. Customer service was spectacular, will visit again next time there!

I stopped in because I needed a fast coffee fix. I received quick and friendly service. I had the iced Caramello Leche Macchiato and was pleased with the quality and taste. No complaints!

I forgot to ask for her name but our cashier was an angel, very sweet + good service! With her recommendations, I got the Mediterranean Wrap and an iced chai with vanilla and was pretty satisfied with my order, especially with my drink. My friend got an iced red eye and it tasted a bit watered down but not bad. Appreciated the options here, does the job fulfilling that caffeine fix 🙂
