Great little maw and paw bbq joint that has parking for rvs etc. Good portion size and fair prices. Brisket was a bit dry but everything else was very good. Fried potato chips w their house made ranch are the bomb.

I hate to say it, but our experience was pretty disappointing, overall. We got take-out: 1# of pork and a large potato salad. This place is spotlessly clean and the service staff is friendly and they seem happy to be there. For the Cullman area, this is rare and stands out for me. Though I did not enjoy the food that we ordered, we will be back to try something different because of the staff and cleanliness of the place. The pork that we received had large chunks of WAY overcooked outside meat. It was not burned, it was just hard and dry. Overall, the meat was very dry. The sauce is pretty good. The potato salad is definitely my style of potato salad. I’m a potato salad snob and I don’t like any sweetness in potato salad. Their potato salad seemingly has no salt in it, at all. I almost never salt my food after it is prepared, but I had to put a ton of salt in it to make it better. This is disappointing because it has everything else going for it. I’ve included a photo of the hard and dry meat and a picture of the menu on 9/13/2025 to show the updated prices (approximately 50% higher than the other pictures of the menu show). I have no issue with the prices, but other folks may appreciate seeing their actual current prices. I would not order the pulled pork again, but I will definitely be back to try something different of their other offerings. I would definitely recommend folks to try this place in hopes that my food was not typical of what they usually serve.

For years I have heard about how Pop’s has the best BBQ in Cullman and finally had a chance to try it – only to be severely disappointed. The BBQ honestly sucks. Of the pulled pork, brisket, and turkey I had, the turkey was the only thing that had any real flavor, probably only because it was brined before they go it in. Seriously, a little salt on something, ANYTHING, would go a long way. The complimentary potato chips were a nice touch, but again, needed salt.

Beyond that, the brisket wasn’t rendered and was overcooked. The sides (slaw & mac-n-cheese) we both absolutely disgusting and were small portions. A lot of BBQ places hide their crappy BBQ beneath a generous portion of mediocre to moderately-good BBQ sauce, but I couldn’t even do that here. The BBQ sauce they had on the table was the worst BBQ sauce I have ever had. The white sauce that I got with my turkey was not good and sure wasn’t what white sauce was meant to be.

I will not be returning for the Pop’s BBQ experience again. If you want good BBQ in Cullman go to Jim N Nick’s or William’s BBQ. Even the fast food BBQ that Lawler’s and Southern Hickory serves is better. This ain’t it.

Pop’s Place, in Good Hope Alabama, is a fine choice for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The perfect blend of down home cooking and small town atmosphere. They have enough room for a few big trucks, on the right side, to stop by. So if you’re looking for a good place to eat in Alabama, you’ll find this little gem just south of Cullman at exit 299 off of Hwy 65. See ya there.

Pops Place Barbeque in Dodge City is always worth the stop. The pulled pork is tender and flavorful, the sauce is amazing, and the portions are generous for the price. The staff is friendly, the place feels welcoming, and you can tell everything’s cooked with care. Highly recommend if you’re anywhere nearby!

While visiting the area, we tried a local BBQ place, and we were not disappointed!!! The ribs were absolutely delicious, and the baked potato with pulled pork was perfect. The bbq sauce they make is a great compliment to the meat. It’s definitely a must try if you’re in the area. The food is amazing. The sweet tea is also delicious.

All in all, Pop’s Place has the best ribs I’ve had in a long time. Everything else was also delicious. It was a nice homie atmosphere, and the service was great. I will definitely be going back here often.

Oh my God.

Some of you may know that I am a phenom in the smoke pit, and also if you go through my reviews you see that I frequent barbecue places all over the country. Probably one out of every four or five actually make the cut. This is one of them.

Place was packed, and they close at 3:00 so you need to get your butt in there or you’ll miss out. They had a separate dining room that had a private event, and then the main dining room for all of us hungry little festerlings.

They’ve won top barbecue awards 4 years in a row, the decorations are nice, everything about the inside is nice and warm.

I walked in, and was immediately greeted and told us just sit wherever I’d like to so I grabbed the first table I was next to.

They say everything’s bigger in texas, and I’ve been to plenty Texas barbecue joints, but they ain’t bigger than THIS ‘Bama spot. Ho-ly cow.

The waitress got my drink and took my order. I ordered fried pickles as an appetizer, which I absolutely did not need. I also ordered the five meat plate with three sides. I walked in there, not have eaten all day, so I was pretty damn hungry. I got so full, I was considering calling a cab to drive me back across the street where I’m staying. I digress….

Shortly after ordering she came to my table with homemade chips. Literally some of the best I’ve ever had anywhere.

Then my sides came, then my plate came. My GAWD what did I just order!? The amount of food that you get for the price is just amazing. My fried pickles were eight bucks, and my platter was only 26 bucks but seriously, it can feed two people and still have leftovers to take home.
I left with two boxes of leftovers that I’ll be able to eat on for the next 2 days easy.

I ordered smoked ham, smoked turkey, pulled pork, SLICED brisket (the way it is SUPPOSED TO BE made, none of that chopped crap) and REAL pork ribs. None of that “fall off the bone” nonsense that these low budget wannabe BBQ places advertise, that always end up just being steamed and then tossed in an oven or electric smoker.

All my meats were outstanding. The brisket was tender, the ribs were on point, the turkey was outstanding. Okra was normal, I wasn’t too big of a fan of the turnip greens, but my sweet baked potato was ridiculous! In a good way!

My server was super nice, they were super slammed and she still managed to chit chat a bit with me. All in all, my meal came to 40 bucks. And like I said, I have two PACKED styrofoam to go containers.

I’m really glad I walked over here. And I’m really glad that this place knows what barbecue SHOULD be. There’s a lot of restaurants I’ve been to, that could take notes from this place.

This is only my second time in Dodge City, but when I come back here, I’ll definitely be coming back for more Chow! SO worth the money!

Left the interstate hungry, we passed the chain restaurants and we see this little place with a parking lot full of cars. So we stopped. Outside the air smelled like BBQ. Inside, nothing fancy but tables are all full except the one we headed for. A charming waitress took our order. Special requests, no problem. Quickly homemade potatoes ribbons appeared, very good. Then the main course, very generous and very delicious. We only wished we had room for dessert. Very glad we stopped!!!

Pops is a very quaint BBQ joint with a huge menu selection and great atmosphere. It has the locally owned vibe with the wooden sign out front and the gravel parking lot. You seat yourself when you walk in and the staff grab your drink and food orders quickly. Food came out in less than 10 minutes on a Friday night. I enjoyed my brisket plate (regular size) with the free homemade potato chips as starter. I would definitely stop here again if I was in the area.
