First time there, we enter and no one to greet you NOR a sign to seat yourself or wait to be seated. We waited only about 6-7 min for someone to tell us to seat yourself. Passed a couple of dirty tables to sit at the window! Don’t worry, there are windows views at every single table. There is also bar seating as well. There is a certain charm about a 50’s diner chrome everywhere, black and white checkered floor.
As we look at the HUGE menu, we watch the HUGE plates of food pass. So, plan on sharing or taking some home.
Tables were clean and waitress was friendly enough. Chicken Fried steak, white gravy, eggs over easy, grits and English muffin were all absolutely spectacular! The steak was super tender and crispy! The gravy wasn’t over or underseasoned, I added nothing! The entire plate was gone, literally not a crumb on the plate left over.
The Philly Skillet was also pretty great! Absolutely huge and we took more than half home. The potatoes/fries were super crispy. The onions, peppers and mushrooms were all seasoned very well and nothing was added at all. Would have liked more meat to the ratio of veggies but with all of the veggies and 2 eggs over easy, it worked well. No beef was brought home because there wasn’t a lot on the plate. We kept seeing the biscuits pass and we just had to order one. Brought most of it home but just had to taste it. It was huge. Light and fluffy, not heavy or overdone. Would have went well with the white gravy- note for future visits.
Overall 5/5! Would go back. Would like to see the place get a deep cleaning and paint touch ups and maybe required for the wait staff to have their hair up or fixed and presentable. Several looked like they just rolled out of bed. Will have to go for lunch! Bring a neighbor. Locals/regulars meeting for coffee and visits was nice to see. Not overpriced.
But, all the food was cold. The coffee was watery, the sausage links were only just off raw, not browned. The casing was still white and stretchy. Gross.
We were hungry, and are traveling from Michigan to Florida so we didnt have time or energy to be choosy. We ate what we could but nobody could eat all their plate of cold, unseasoned food.
They had a decent biscuit but only serve margarine. They dont even offer real butter for purchase. Such a shame because if they had a cook that could cook sausage properly, cook hot food and serve real food items like actusl butter it could be a winning place. But sadly the decor is the best part about the place. The service was very lackluster as well. No hospitality. She walked over and I was the one that had to initiate the greeting. Then, she only returned once to refill coffee and never came back again. To give us boxes or a check. Even after we stood up and looked around, nobody came, they made us walk over to the register and ask for a box.
And for our check.
4/10 would not go back.
Included photo of all the food we left behind due to it being too cold to enjoy. Waste of money.
One piece of advice for anyone new like us is that you seat yourself; it’d be helpful if there was a sign up to clarify this!
The service is very attentive and friendly. Breakfast and lunch menus make it really difficult to decide which to order (do both!).
The cheeseburger omelet and the Philly omelet are absolutely amazing.
The coffee is also great, nice and strong.
Ample parking means that we don’t mind driving all the way in from Black Mountain. We know there will be a place to park and, while it’s a seat yourself kind of place, given the speed of service, you won’t be waiting for long.
