Poppa Burger in Houston, Texas
Opened in 1963, Poppa Burger is an open-air restaurant with picnic table seating. There is a lot of construction, but their logo catches my eye as we park.

I’ve been coming here since was a kid. The cheese fries are my favorite thing on the menu. They are open all hours( 24/7) and they are a cash only business. It’s BEAUTIFUL to see a local business still standing ***CASH ONLY***Great service, some meal items are hit or miss but definitely the heart of houston.

Dirty tables more often than not. The food is made fresh. Service is straightforward. Order at the window, wait for your number to be called. Cash only. I ordered the fish sandwich and it came out piping hot, add pickles since they do not have tartar sauce. Overall, a quick bite to eat on a late night.

First time here and this wasn’t for me. Ordered the cheese burger and chili cheese fries. The meat tasted/looked steamed? It wasn’t hot enough to melt the cheese. The bun was hard and dry. The fries – made me leeery. Stadium cheese? Meat topping? I love it for the people who love it – just not my jam.

Poppa Burger is a great spot for a quick, classic meal any time of day. The burgers are tasty, portions are good, and the prices are very reasonable. I like the old-school vibe and the fact that it’s open 24 hours — super convenient when you’re craving something late at night. Service was friendly and the food came out pretty fast. The only downside is that the place can feel a bit dated and busy at times, but overall it’s a solid local burger joint that I’d definitely visit again.

It took me to my child days. I loved them so much when I was younger.
I do miss the French fries in a bag and they out ketchup in it. But it was still delicious.

Poppa burger is the kind of burger you need on a good night with that big fry with ketchup soaking the fries and a big jalapeño pouring the juice on the fries and burger to get that hunger craving satisfied. The prices are still very affordable and they only take cash. For many of us from the neighborhood here, this place is an extension of our homes and family. My grandfather ate here, my dad ate here and now I’m eating here. Way better than a whataburger or any other fast food burger. The taco suaves are also delicious. You can’t go wrong here when hunger strikes.
Some may be warry of the neighborhood here but don’t let that deter you. Just watch yourself and others. You’ll be ok and the food is worth it!

Service is quick and the portions are huge. There’s also lots of outside seating. Got 3 double burgers, milkshake and an order of onion rings for about $18. The burgers won’t blow your mind or anything, but for the price they’re decent.

I only give the atmosphere 3/5 because I went pretty late at night and I was the only person there so I didn’t get to vibe, other than that… Food was amazing!! I got the catfish platter and that jawn was banging. I wish they would put salt on the fries and sub the regular toast for Texas toast cause I mean hey we are in Texas lol. But the customer service was amazing! The food was amazing! And for a late night spot it’s pretty dope. Ask the Texas natives was good in the area around 3am and they all said the same thing! Go check it out!

Poppa Burger is a longtime staple in the city—open 24/7 with no days off. It’s the go-to spot for affordable, no-fuss burgers any time of day or night.
Cash only, but totally worth it. Great for feeding the family on a budget, and the food is always ready fast. Reliable, simple, and a true local favorite.
