So I was rolling along minding my own business and I thought, maybe I’ll drop by Del taco and get a couple of cheap greasy tacos but as I pulled up I noticed that there were two signs, one for Del taco and the other for Popeyes and I thought Well, Here’s the chance! I am not one to turn down a challenge, and even the thought of fried chicken is nostalgic. It takes me back to my childhood and mother making the most amazing food.
I wasn’t expecting that. I know fast food is just fast food But I thought what the heck, let’s give it a try. The interior was nicer than I expected warm colors and romantic lettering. I got a three-piece combo that looked a little like they had come from hobbit chickens. Not terribly large… and I got fries.
There were no napkins, which is insane considering that they specialize in chicken where greasy fingers are just a fact of life. But I suppose that’s what pants are made for. I watched another family go to the front and ask for napkins, but for me that ship had sailed. I was already up to my wrists in grease and was already beginning to doubt my detour into this poultry experience…
The breading was good, crunchy and firm as if the chicken was wearing a bit of savory armor, chickens of the round table. This is where things began to take their tumble into disappointment. The wing was a joke as if the chicken had been an anorexic and the only thing clinging to the bone was crunchy crust. Next time I’ll just get two pieces and demand no wings, well actually there will be no next time.
The chicken itself was meager with an abundance of gristle and a lacking of seasoning. I did not have high expectations, but even then I was disappointed. It’s like opening the treasure chest on a pirate ship and discovering that it is full of lead instead of gold.
The chicken, like the restaurant itself is all show, but no soul. The interior decorating is nice, but the magic is missing. I suppose at least now I know. Good fried chicken is hard to find and bad fried chicken always costs too much.
When I first came in, the manager acknowledged me with a nod and then proceeded to go about his duties as if I were not there. They must be understaffed but it’s not a good look, me standing forlorn and lonely as the manager hustles about doing other things. I don’t get angry about this kind of thing much anymore, I just take notes. This was a failure on the food and a failure on the service. I can think of no reason to ever give it a second try.
The place is kind of small, but that just means you’re closer to the real reason you’re there: that spicy fried chicken. And wow. That chicken doesn’t whisper “spicy,” it testifies. Crispy, juicy, and absolutely not here to play games.
They’ve got some cool decorative touches inside too—nothing fancy, but enough personality to make you feel like you’re in the right place doing the right thing with your life.
The staff was friendly, moved fast, and got my food out like they knew I was emotionally invested in this meal. No long waits, no weird vibes—just good service and hot food.
Overall, it’s a great spot when you want something delicious, fast, and slightly life-affirming. Easy 4 out of 5 stars. Would absolutely come back.
Update: returned the tea today and Jose seemed dismissive and uninterested in the mold issue. Stating that a tea bag broke without even examining it. Only when saying no no it’s not from a tea bag it’s mold , slimy , not a tea substance. He then looked briefly and said ok, what do you want? A refund? I said well that’s nice but I was actually worried about the health issue and brought it in to help you figure out if there was a problem causing this. He dismissed saying that the tea is made fresh and he doesn’t know what happened. I truly did not want anything out of this other than to make sure no one else has to have this happen to them. I won’t be eating here again and have for years and truly hope a health inspector reviews this and follows up. I showed Jose this thread with the response that says to bring it in so they can figure out what’s going on with the mole, it’s shows the response is from the owner which I truly appreciate however Jose dismissed that as well saying that’s not the owner you’re just using an app. I hope someone takes this seriously so someone else doesn’t ingest this.
