I have been wanting to try this for a while! So glad we finally did! Some of the best food I have had in a long time. This place is five stars all the way. Prices are great, Food is great, service is good and friendly, place is clean. Seriously, what more could you ask for? I will most certainly be back. This will be in the permanent rotation for local food dining. Keep up the great work! Thanks again

We’ve been here 3 or 4 times with the whole family. Food is fantastic, wife says best country fried steak she has ever had. Waitresses and service is below avg we have sat and waited 10 minutes before anybody showed up (at least twice, except for one older lady that is great). No issue with atmosphere, country diner vibe, which I like. Still recommend. We’ve only went for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. Never dinner. Would recommend.

We have passed this many times and so excited to try. Walked in sat down. The bathroom was out of order because of the “rain”
We started placing our order they were out of poppers, tarot tots, and everything on their samplers. Our waitress response was the owner ran to the store to stock up for their menu. We decided on onion rings that came with no dipping sauce and ZERO taste.
My salad came out and there was hair in it. Sent that back.
Chicken fried steak came out and literally NO TASTE AT ALL.
we were just trying to get out of there by now. I wanted to bring my salad home for my chickens and they were drum rolll….. OUT OF LARGE BOXES.

So we moved to whitesboro almost a year ago and we’ve heard good things about this restaurant. We tried it today and we were very unhappy with the food. We ordered an order of the chicken tenders with french fries, a bacon cheeseburger with tater tots, and a 10oz ribeye with a salad and baked potato.
The tenders were burnt and the fries had absolutely no flavor.
The cheeseburger was OK but the tater tots tasted like onion rings. I guess they fried them in the same grease or just old grease.
The ribeye was not cooked the way we liked it. We asked for it to be cooked medium-well but it was well done. The potato was just that, a basic potato that was baked. There was also no flavor.
We ordered an extra side of the fried cheese sticks, it seems as if when they were fried them the cheese melted out of them. They were just an empty shell of breadcrumbs.
For $55, this was a major disappointment. Luckily we have 2 large german shepherd dogs and they ended up eating about 85% of the meal.

Off the beaten path, but worth the drive. The food was AMAZING!!! I had the hamburger steak dinner. It was so flavorful and well seasoned. The homemade fries and creamy brown gravy made the meal. My sister had a hamburger and had huge compliments for it as well. The service was phenomenal. We took fried pecan pies home to eat at a later time. If you get a chance, stop by and tell them I sent you!!

They had a sign next to the register jokingly saying they reserved the right to deny service to people who act rich and entitled. And as a dirt broke queer, I appreciate that.
Also appears to serve breakfast all day. Best hash browns I have ever had in my life.

April 21st 2024 my fiance took my son and I out to eat here for our first time ever. I’d been wanting a chicken fried steak and we saw a few carried out that looked really good to other customers so that is what he and I ordered. They were absolutely terrible, they tasted like they have been cooked on the same grill that they cook their liver and onions on. Other than the flavor from the other meat that had been cooked on the grill there was Zero flavor to them whatsoever. We didn’t even end up eating them they charge just over $75 and kept insisting that we take to go boxes. We insisted that we did not need them because we did not want the food. After our food was delivered we were not even checked on one single time for drink refills to the condiment or anything. Like I said this was all of our first time eating here and we will never be going back.

Maybe my teacher friends and I went on an off day. We all had a lunch special. They were already sold out of several items and the dessert so it was a subbed pudding type dessert that tasted like a box. Chicken fried chicken was literally a frozen Tyson type flat chicken patty with cream gravy. 5 of us and we all unfortunately had the same experience with our foods. I was hoping for better. May not be back.

They closed the old location that was in Collinsville and moved it to Whitesboro, which those of us in this area are very excited about. It’s nice to finally have a sit-down restaurant with basic country style foods like chicken fried steak, meatloaf, breakfast items and other food that is not fast food. A nice selection of pies as well. The staff was extremely helpful and the prices are very reasonable. I hope they will open for dinner, especially on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday when all other restaurants by the lake are closed.

This was the best breakfast we’ve had in a long time! We were driving through town, looked up breakfast places, and decided to eat here. It felt like taking a step back in time, good home cooking, country/vintage atmosphere, friendly and attentive service, and excellent prices! We will be making the drive back soon! Great Job Poor Boy Cafe!
