Calling Poochie’s Hot Dogs a Skokie staple would honestly be an understatement. It should be considered a true Skokie landmark. I was practically raised here as a kid and even worked here for two years after high school, so this place means a lot to me. Poochie’s is more than just a restaurant. It’s a family. It’s a place that always felt like home and still does every time I walk through the door.
The food is everything you want from classic Chicago eats. Cheddar burgers, cheddar fries, char dogs, grilled salami. Try everything. Seriously. Every item is made with care, packed with flavor, and exactly what you picture when you think of authentic Chicago food done right.
If you grew up in Skokie, you know. If you’re visiting, this is a must stop. Poochie’s is the epitome of Chicago food and community, and I’ll always be grateful to have grown up with a place like this in my life.

I have been coming to Poochie’s since the early 1980s. I lived half a block from the old location. They have the best cheddar fries in Chicagoland. Their burgers and dogs are amazing too. I would visit far more often if I lived closer. You won’t find better Chicago food than Poochies.

The best Char Burger! I highly recommend the Char Cheddar Burger. The cheese is almost like a spread which is very pleasant. The fries are very good too. I think Superdawg has better dogs though. The service was very sweet too. Server with the Blue Hair was very sweet. I’d definitely return for another burger.

Poochie’s has been around for a long time, and you feel the warmth of a cozy, comfortable place right as you walk through the door. Plenty of tables and booths, large TVs showing the news/games going on, and a great team ready to grill up your order. We went with the Double Char Burger and a Chicago Dog, fries with both. Everything was just delicious. GREAT comfort food. If you are looking to treat yourself to a great burger and fries, Poochie’s is a great place to go!

Great lay out. Plenty of parking. Great customer service from the cashier. Great fresh fries. HORRIBLE CHEESE SAUCE ADDED TO THE FRIES. THE MOST DISGUSTING CHEESE FRIES I’VE EVER HAD. Maybe the cheese was old. Maybe the cheese was a type I’ve never had. Either way, absolutely disgusting. It definitely was not the typical NACHO CHEESE sauce on fries. Bathrooms were clean. Everything else was great.

Just had burgers, cheese fries and chicken tenders delivered. Most of the food was eaten by the garbage can. Cheese fries were cold and covered in a big blob of cheese. Burger was supposed to have blue cheese crumbles, but all I got was a nasty salad dressing.

super delicious veggie burgers and fries, but the cheese fries are just a tragedy, the cheese is probably powder cheese, disgusting and in such quantity that it is simply impossible to eat it, please change the cheese and everything will be just perfect

First time in Chicago, so we wanted to try some Chicago-style food for us and the teens. Someone suggested Portillo’s, but in looking that up, we came across Poochie’s, which had similar Chicago-style menu options, and the name sounded fun, so we came here instead. So glad we did! The gal at the register was super helpful since this place was new to us. Most items came as a “special,” which meant it came with their hand-cut fries and a 20-oz drink. One teen got the Chicago dog with ALL the toppings, and substituted onion rings for the fries; two others got the bacon cheeseburger specials; my son got the double cheeseburger special and substituted an oreo shake for the drink for an extra charge. My hubby went with the Italian beef sandwich, fries and a chocolate malt. I did the polish sausage special, Chicago style. The cool thing was, when your sandwich was ready, the grillmaster called you up to the counter to put on the toppings you wanted. It was kind of like Subway! Note: a serving of fries was huge – you may want to share. The food was excellent, the service great. On our way out, we discovered that, unlike the Portillos chain, this was a single location eatery. We’re glad we stopped in!!
