To start with, the baguette was HARD (every other establishment excelled here, serving fresh bread straight out of the oven, but not Pompettee).. that’s a horrible start and it sets the mood for the rest of the dishes. We didn’t taste a single dish that left an impression on us.. perhaps the salad dressing was good, but the remaining dishes were bland. The fish didn’t taste like much, the steak didn’t taste like much and overall just a disappointing experience.
Very confused on how this establishment is so highly rated. We were happy with the service and ambience.. zero complains about the staff.. but the whole point of going to a restaurant is the food, and hopefully to taste something special. In that regard, Pompette ranks at the very bottom of our Brisbane banquet list.
Steak was the star for me, great fish, fresh oysters but had a side of really pungent vinaigrette mix, interesting cured meat (pungent in a good way but may too be pungent for some).
Not so great – the tough bread was a nono. Dessert was probably too heavy and I personally don’t enjoy canned cherries, maybe an ice cream or sorbet would end the meal better.
Ambiance was nice, service was attentive but not as friendly? The vibe was not welcoming.
We went on Friday and saw they were busy, which was given since they’re in a prime location 🙂 So I suggest making a booking ahead of time to make sure you get a table.
First of all, I want to thank the entire team for the excellent work — especially Munnir, who always serves us with so much attention, care, and professionalism. The service is always welcoming, consistent, and of a very high standard.
I would also like to note that the comment made about the birthday celebration on 20 December 2026
does not make any sense to me. My experience was completely different — it was an incredible evening, with impeccable service from beginning to end. Everything was handled with organization, friendliness, and great dedication from the team.
I am a customer and a big fan of the restaurant — both the food, which is always wonderful, and the service, which in my experience has always been impeccable.

While the structure of the course itself was fine, the beef tartare did not pair well with the overly sweet pastry sheet, which felt like a pre-made product.
The biggest disappointment was the steak.
We ordered two medium-rare and one medium-well, but the steaks served as medium-rare were actually well done. I checked with the waiter twice, and was told both times that they were medium-rare.
Ironically, the steak served as medium-well was closer to medium.
After raising the issue, the steak was re-cooked and the second version was much closer to medium-rare. While it could have been slightly rarer, it was at least noticeably more tender and juicy than the first one.
If you’re ordering steak here, I strongly recommend double-checking the doneness.
You may end up with a steak that’s two levels overcooked.
In the photo, the steak with no pink at all was presented as “medium-rare”, while the one with visible pink was served as medium-well.
(I’m a chef, but this isn’t about being picky — it felt more like a lack of consistency and basic doneness control.)
The duck was acceptable, though honestly, the carrot on the side was more memorable.
Considering the price, the value was disappointing, and I don’t plan to return.
All the dishes were wonderful but the one I came specifically to try this time was the escagots. It’s the first time for me and I could say that it’s so good. The MB5+ steak was perfectly grilled, very tender, fragrant, and juicy. Highly recommended. Will definitely come again.
