I swung by Polo Chef Bakery in Greenacres this morning around 7:30 a.m., looking for something quick to grab on my way to work. The shopping plaza was still half-asleep, so parking was a total non-issue — I pulled right up to the door with tons of empty spots. Walking in, the place felt bright, spotlessly clean, and pleasantly quiet (just the low hum of the display coolers and the faint smell of fresh-baked dough in the air).
The cases weren’t fully stocked yet, which makes sense that early — a few trays were still being brought out from the back. What was there looked legitimately fresh, with that telltale steam still rising off some of the items. The staff (two ladies behind the counter) greeted me with actual smiles and a cheerful “good morning,” which instantly put me in a better mood. Service was lightning-fast too; I was in and out in under four minutes.
I went with the spinach and cheese pie because it looked the most tempting at that hour. First bite: the crust is the real star here — unmistakably handmade, flaky on the outside, tender inside, with that perfect golden color and slight buttery taste. You can tell they’re not cutting corners on dough. The filling was hot, the spinach tasted fresh rather than frozen, and there was a decent amount of seasoning. My only critique is that it leaned a little too spinach-forward for me; I was craving a richer, creamier, more cheesy bite — think tiropita or even a cream cheese-swirled borek level of indulgence. It was good, just not “wow” enough to become my regular order.
Portion was surprisingly generous for the price (under $5 if I remember right), and it kept me full well past lunchtime. Everything felt made-that-morning fresh, which is increasingly rare these days.
One thing that genuinely puzzled me: the word “Polo” in the name had me half-expecting some chicken-filled pastries or empanadas in the mix (pollo = chicken, right?). There were zero chicken options in the breakfast lineup — not even a simple chicken and cheese turnover. That felt like a missed opportunity for a place with that branding. A couple of savory chicken items would easily push this into daily-stop territory for me.
All in all, Polo Chef is a solid neighborhood gem. Clean, friendly, fairly priced, and authentically baked from scratch. If they ever add some chicken-based morning options and dial up the cheese factor on a few fillings, it could easily be a 5-star regular rotation. As it stands, very happy to recommend — definitely worth popping in if you’re nearby.

And Carolina is fantastic…
Biscuits even better than back home!
Hands down best in town!
Everything we’d ordered for our Christmas dinner was delicious. Sandwiches, tongue vinaigrette and stuffed matambre(flank steak)
They have also remodeled the shop a bit, so it looks a lot more cozy, now.
Biscuits are still the best in town, by miles. Better than back home!
