Review for Pollos Asados El Vecino – A Masterclass in Theft and Deceit
I am writing this review from a place of sheer disbelief and anger. My experience at Pollos Asados El Vecino wasn’t just bad service; it was a calculated, brazen act of robbery and lies.
From the moment I approached the window, something felt off. The woman taking my order was dismissive and rushed. I ordered a standard meal. When she quoted me a price that was 5 dollars more then what the menu board stated, I politely pointed out the discrepancy.
That’s when the horror began.
She looked me dead in the eye and insisted the price was correct because she had “added extra rice and beans.” I had asked for no such thing. I repeated, calmly but firmly, that I ordered only the standard meal, no additions. Her response? A cold, defiant shrug. “That’s what you’re getting charged for.” She blatantly lied to my face to justify an overcharge of almost $6.
When I refused to back down and asked for a manager or a correction, her demeanor turned from dismissive to openly hostile. She muttered in Spanish (assuming I didn’t understand), finalized the transaction at the inflated price without my consent, and shoved the receipt and food at me with a contemptuous sneer.
The food itself was okay at best—dry chicken, flavorless beans—but that’s almost beside the point. The point is I was cheated, deliberately and knowingly, by a staff member who invented a lie to steal money.
This establishment does not operate on good faith. It operates on a strategy of seeing what they can get away with, hoping customers are too non-confrontational or confused to fight back. They are not mistakes; they are scams.
Do not give these people your money. You are not paying for food; you are funding their deceptive practices and rewarding them for treating honest customers with contempt and fraud. The “Vecino” (neighbor) in their name is a sick joke. A neighbor doesn’t look you in the eye, lie, and pick your pocket.

Ask for a platter of 4 and charged me 60 dollars with 2 tiny pieces of chicken and a lot of bones with little meat and 2 rice n beans and salsa plus tortillas for 60 dollars what a rip off. Live right behind and would’ve love to keep going back but nope not a good first time for this bs. What people do for money it’s funny.

This is by far my favorite chicken. I drive sometimes 25 min from Brownsville just to buy their chicken. The chicken is served with rice, beans, and tortillas. Their red salsa is amazing! Very reasonably priced!

If you like your fajitas and ribs on the charred side, then this is the place for you. The fajitas and ribs were very delicious and the chicken was grilled to perfection. The staff were nice but not much personality. Either way, give it a try if you like grilling the old fashioned way. Just wish I’d asked for grilled onions in foil. I forgot to ask for some. Definitely will be going back in the near future.

If you missed the family cookout this place has the flavour you’ve been missing. Try is you’ll love it & if there is a line then the secret is out but it’s worth the wait. The sell sausage & carne asada too but I’m hooked on the Rice & Bean with my chicken. I get the whole bird. They give you tortillas with your order but remember the salsa is fresh & can be spicy for some of the snow birds.
There is no dine in it’s take out only so call up your friends or family & enjoy simply delicious food together.

The food was great. Had the grilled chicken plate. Service was good. The only thing is there are a few puppies around the place from neighbors. I dined in on some benches they have outside and dogs came by. They don’t bother you and I didn’t mind them. But I can see some people not liking it. But the food was awesome.
