Pollo Tropical, Spanish for Tropical Chicken is a South Florida based company founded in 1988 by two brothers from Miami, Larry and Stuart Harris. They developed their marinade recipe through backyard barbecues. Their restaurant concept was to marinate and grill the chicken in full view of the customer. By 1993 they had grown to eight restaurants serving Latin Caribbean and Cuban food. Pollo Tropical is now a subsidiary of Fiesta Restaurant Group, Inc. The company headquarters are in Doral and they currently own and operate more than 140 locations throughout Florida, plus five on college campuses, and 32 franchised locations throughout the Caribbean, Central America, South America, and Puerto Rico.

I remember eating at Pollo Tropical quiet often in the early 2000’s because you could always get a fast, economical, and healthy meal. I especially love the curry sauce but through the years the grubbiness of the restaurants were a real turn off and I gradually stopped going.

Fast forward to today when I was with someone who wanted to eat here. I didn’t have high hopes but in the interest of being agreeable I went along. Wow, I have to say I am impressed. The restaurant was spotless with an updated tropical color scheme. It looked clean and spacious. The tables weren’t sticky and dirty which was always a problem before. Gone is the sloppy, messy sauce station. Instead you request your sauce and it is given portioned out in plastic cups.

The young lady who took our order was so nice. I got my usual chicken tropichop with yellow rice and the bowl was topped with perfectly grilled tender chunks of chicken. So good especially when drizzled with the curry sauce. I ate inside and it was very pleasant but you can get your food to go from the drive thru too. This was a really good lunch that didn’t leave me feeling heavy, tired, and bloated after. This location of Pollo Tropical deserves accolades.

Service is lacking here.
I witnessed a few customers arguing with people working about what was missing from their orders, but the food is unmatched for a drive thru.
This could have been a bad day. It seemed as if everyone came here for lunch at once.

This complaint is based on the visit for 11/19/2025 around 8pm and a black young lady with a red shirt along with the young lady at the drive thru were completely just talking which is fine however I proceeded to ask for the sauces to the young lady and her manager had to let her know that I was talking to her and her response was “I hear her” as if she heard me but ignoring me! The customer service was disgusting and seems like the manager would like to make friends instead of running an organization making sure her employees has the customer service they need to keep the customers happy! I’ll never come back to this location because it seems like a bunch of kids running an organization with no type of respect or simple customer service skills! They make pollo look bad. I normally don’t even leave reviews but after attempting to reach corporate I decided to leave this review hoping they come to a solution.

Employees are not trained to have customer service or courtesy. Hello how are you doing ? Thank you for ordering. 9 out of 10 times you won’t be greeted or treated with respect and courtesy.

Ordered my food at 7:55pm and the drive through lady asked me to move back to cheat their time sensor. I asked for cilantro garlic and they don’t have any sauce. For the amount of money you pay for food you would expect better service

This pollo tropical location was my favorite I have live in the area for years. Now the management and staff have changed and let me tell you the staff their are so rude I tried going their like three times sometimes mainly because I’m on a lunch break and they are closer the staff are rude, the food quality is not good and they never have sauce as they are lazy. Save yourself from the disappointment and just drive to the Pollo tropical in Broward and University in Plantation its so much better and the food quality especially the customer service attention. The third time they were so rude this made me come and write this comment on my lunch break. Yes it was that bad businesses depend on customer service skills and speaking to customers in a polite way.

I ordered white rice and Caribbean soup via the drive thru. The service is too slow and the surroundings are dirty. There was a big garbage bag right by the entrance. When the lady gave me the food I saw a lot of ants close to the window and the walls were dirty. The food is good but my only complaint is that the rice was bland. They need to be cleaner.

The food is very good, however they need to work on there presentation of the dining area. I ended up cleaning my own table after having asked an employee. Another customer asked the same of the employee due to the fact that almost every single table needs caring to. She went and only cleaned that one table. I have been here more than a half hour and its slow inside at this moment a perfect time to organize restock and get rid of trash, however its not being done. : ( pur food was good though and i have been to other Pollo Tropicals and i havent encountered it this way before.
