Reviews
Poke the People has the BEST kalbi short ribs — unbelievably tender, sweet, and packed with flavor. So tasty, I forgot to take a picture. They were served with a scoop of rice and mac salad, and the whole plate was just perfection. Honestly, it was so good I could eat this every week if I lived here.
The Poke bowls were very fresh and tasty another must try.
Everyone was friendly, the service was quick, and the food came out hot and fresh. We’re already talking about coming back, and when we do, this will be the first place I go. Highly recommend!
You have to find parking on a street or somewhere but it’s always easy to find a spot.
On the walls are photography works by the legend Arto Saari, if you skateboard you’ll appreciate this 😉
The ahi is fantastic, can’t go wrong with any flavor mix. Everything was fresh and the portion was enough for my wife and I to share one bowl.
Shout out to boss man for hooking it up with the tastiest BBQ beef <3
Would recommend anyone coming here! You can tell by the line and steady stream of people that this place is awesome.
I likes spicy tuna but the version here is meh as it was mushy paste and not solid chunks that I prefer. But, still delicious. The sesame onion ahi was AMAZING. Limu imamona ahi (i.e., with nuts) was good too.
Fish is SUPER fresh. Did not detect any sinewy pieces. On the included two sides,I really recommend the sweet potato. Mashed well and the potatoey flavor comes across softly.
One of our bowls used a salad base–nothing particular with the lettuces/leaves. They provide the dressing on side. We selected the creamy sesame which is a nice contrast to the flavored fish. Rice on the other bowl was perfectly cooked.
This restaurant is a great way to insert some grubbing between the dole whip dessert earlier at the Dole Plantation and the next item (shaved ice) down the block from this spot!
Got the Shoyu Ahi and Hamachi 2 choice poke bowl salad with seaweed and pickled cucumber. Shoyu Ahi is the recommendation from others’ reviews and well-earned. Tender, flavourful with a good portion. Hamachi with sesame special was also excellent.
Special call out to the cucumber salad (namasu?). Great crunch still on thinly sliced cucumber with a touch of acidity and sweetness.
To anyone looking for the “Goma”. It is discontinued as the manufacturer for the “secrets ingredient” stopped making that particular item. They are for a substitute but Goma is off the menu for now.
Super friendly staff, really made the experience lovely.
Parking in the back, don’t park out front like a jerk please.
Service
Arriving at 3 p.m., I found the restaurant pleasantly uncrowded. The dine-in service was a welcome change, allowing for a relaxing break to enjoy the meal without feeling rushed. The staff was friendly and the service was efficient. The menu offers a large variety of dishes, including breakfast options and burgers, which is a nice bonus. The poke bowl service is customizable, allowing you to choose one or two protein options, two sides, and two toppings. A unique aspect is the cold bar area—the raw fish isn’t visible, but photos of each poke option are displayed, which is different but works well.
Food Quality
I was impressed by the presentation and flavors of my poke bowl. I chose two options: the limu inamona ahi and a spicy shrimp. The ahi poke, with its roasted kukui nut (a local Hawaiian product) and seaweed, was incredibly fresh and had a wonderful balance of melt-in-your-mouth tuna with a tangy, nutty flavor. Spot alert order The spicy shrimp was creamy and had a satisfying crunch from the masago, with the shrimp being a nice, large size. The side dishes were excellent—I got edamame and sweet potato nice two sides which provided a great balance of flavors and textures, garnished with fried garlic and furikake for extra crunch.
Overall Experience
This was an incredibly delicious and satisfying lunch. The price point of $21 per person (without a drink) felt very reasonable given the generous portions and high quality of the food. My two poke choices paired perfectly together, and the signature spicy shrimp and sweet potato side stood out as exceptional. This spot is a great find for anyone looking for a fresh, flavorful, and filling meal on the North Shore.
