I rarely write negative reviews, but my experience with the playa bowls was truly disappointing. For $15, I expected a fresh, refreshing meal, but I ended up throwing away more than half of it. Watery and messy.

Playa Bowls is a chain restaurant that offers fresh açaí, fruit, granola bowls, variety of smoothies and fresh juices. The one which we have visited was across from Ronkonkoma train station. It’s brand new since the area is under construction and offers lots of new apartments, restaurants and bars. The restaurant has coastal decor and is very clean. We only went there few times because my daughter liked the fresh fruit bowls and smoothies. Prices were higher than the ones in Florida, but that’s expected. The place was not busy at all, even though it was the middle of the summer and places like this make a great spot for summer treat, since the fruit is partially frozen. Portions are decent and can be placed in the freezer if not consumed at once. I would probably not make this my go to place on regular basis, but while on vacation it was nice place to visit.

I like the fact that there is a Poke Bowl spot over here. I love the salmon poke bowl made custom to your likings, everything was fresh and delicious, they also carry my Taro Bubble tea which is a good option when I don’t want coffee some days. The staff working was friendly and knowledge and gave me great sauce suggestions. My lunch was fresh and amazing. Matt the owner is amazing he’s the reason why I was so eager to check it out, he’s very hospitable and friendly, glad I checked it out. I will back soon to try the hibachi.

Ordered online to have ready for 11:15, drove 20 minutes to get there just to be told they actually aren’t going to open today. Girl was dressed in full uniform and the store had been open, but she couldn’t just make my order? Nope. Instead she refunded me and I left empty handed.

I always order an acai bowl here and honestly, it’s always good- refreshing, and stacked with fresh fruit that tasted amazing. But the real highlight is Reann! She’s always so sweet, patient, and makes the whole experience feel personal. So yeah, the food is good, but Reann is the reason I always come back. She is a wonderful asset to the company.

I usually love Playa Bowls — their products are always full and delicious. However, in my last few visits, the girl with glasses has been preparing the bowls carelessly; the portions are noticeably smaller, and there’s a lack of friendliness. This doesn’t match the overall quality of the brand. I hope the management pays attention to this issue.

I was acknowledged by the employee and told to wait a second while I looked at the menu. Two customers came in after me, and she skipped me entirely and took their orders first. Poor organization and disappointing customer service.

Title: Rude Service and Questionable Cleanliness – Avoid Because of Lexi!

⭐☆☆☆☆ 1 Star

I wish I could give zero stars. My experience at Playa Bowls in Ronkonkoma was, without exaggeration, the worst customer service experience I have ever had at a food establishment.

From the moment I walked in, the employee behind the counter, who I believe her name was Lexi (based on another customer calling for her), was visibly annoyed that I dared to exist. I was the only one in line, yet she sighed heavily and made zero eye contact, acting as if I were a massive inconvenience.

I politely asked a simple question about the difference between two açaí bases. Her response was a dismissive, monosyllabic grunt followed by an impatient “They’re different. Which one do you want?” No explanation, just attitude.

The worst part was the preparation. While making my bowl, I watched in horror as she repeatedly used the back of her hand and wrist to wipe her nose. She did not wash her hands afterward. She just went right back to handling the fruit and my bowl. It was absolutely disgusting and a blatant violation of basic health and safety. My appetite was gone before I even got my food.

When I very calmly said, “Excuse me, I saw that, and I’m not comfortable accepting that bowl after you didn’t wash your hands,” she became incredibly defensive and rude. She rolled her eyes, slammed the spoon down, and said, “I didn’t do anything. Whatever.” She then made a big show of remaking it while muttering under her breath to her coworker, clearly about me.

The entire interaction was hostile, unprofessional, and utterly revolting. I ended up just walking out without taking the remade bowl because I no longer trusted anything coming from that counter.

Food quality is irrelevant when the staff, specifically Lexi, has such a profound disregard for basic hygiene and common decency. Do not waste your money here. There are plenty of other places to get an açaí bowl where you won’t be treated with contempt and served with a side of germs.

Went here on Veterans Day for the free bowl promo, but this location wasn’t accepting it. Kinda disappointing because other spots were honoring it. Just a heads up for anyone planning to go for the deal.

I promised the staff I’d write a review so here you go…..thank you to Reann, Ava, and Alexis who provided excellent customer service. They were all friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and looking to make sure the needs of the customers were met. I’m not a big ” foodie” and don’t like restaurants but I stopped in here to get something smooth and cold since I was recovering from dental surgery. They reviewed the selections and helped me to narrow down my choices. They were smiling, laughing, and giving their input about the items on the menu. I also mentioned “I’m an actor on television” so I’m sure I’ll be starring in the next ” Playa Bowls” commercial. I had a strawberry/ banana smoothie which also had a lactose free milk product and it was quite enjoyable. They offer many, many delicious options so whether you’re recovering from dental surgery or need a cold refreshing acai bowl as a mid-afternoon treat, I’d highly recommend stopping here. Tell them Beth sent you, maybe you’ll get a discount……or maybe….they’ll charge you double but in any event, stop by.
