We stopped in again recently after I heard a rumor there was no good food in the town of Kalama, and I begged to differ. Playa Azul has always been good, every time I’ve been there, though it’s been over a period of many years. This time when we stopped in the service was over the top good with everyone in a good mood and the chips showing up so fast our heads spun. We had the usual things–I got a chile relleno because you can actually get a real one at this place, one friend got an enchilada and the other got fajitas–they were all good. Sure, I had to peel off a bunch of excess cheese from my plate but this is America where people don’t think it’s Mexican if it’s not under a solid layer of dairy. Not their fault, people expect that much cheese. Anyway this time I asked for homemade salsa and they brought out a monkey dish of fresh green salsa that was a delight, so spicy and good. On our way out our waitress bragged that they still have the same management and the same cook that they had when they opened sometime around 2000–that’s uncommon in a restaurant. So go see for yourself. Fine folks, a Mexican chef that can do a relleno and yummy homemade salsa, and right by I-5 when you’re hungry.

My OH my … Stumbled upon this place a few days ago…. And my goodness whatta FIND!! Starting with The restaurant itself… Very clean and super organized
We were quickly seated and out came the the chips and salsa… Super excellent…. I forgot to ask but they must make those chips themselves because you do not find chips like that ANYWHERE and the salsa was AMAZING…. I had the chicken super burrito…And it looked like something out of a magazine and TASTED even BETTER …. My wife had the chicken tortilla soup and said it was some of the BEST she’s EVER had ….. We most DEFINITELY will be going BACK very soon… YOU should GO too

Took my mom there for her birthday and encountered the rudest RedHeaded Bar-Tender. She was more interested in talking with someone than serving us. When I asked her if she had a bar menu, she rudely said “no” and then walked away. We walked out after such bad service without ordering. This was our first time trying this place and we will not be back.

I’m giving this place a 5 star because the food is delicious. The place is clean and friendly. My friend says the drinks are great. But the food is really good. I can’t say enough about the food.

Not one meal has ever disappointed. I usually get shrimp taco, which are extremely flavorful and filling. With cutting out tortillas I have switched to Pollo Ranchero. Seasoned just right and still filling. We always have left overs.
