I attended the grand opening of PJ’s Coffee, and I have to say, the event itself was really well done. There was a festive atmosphere, a great turnout, and it was nice to see the neighborhood come together to support a new local business. The company even handed out some cool swag, and the employees were friendly, welcoming, and clearly working hard to keep up with the rush — which I really appreciated.

That said, the coffee itself left me pretty disappointed. I ordered their recommended Frozen Bananas Foster, but it tasted like 50% ice, 40% whipped cream, and only 10% actual banana foster flavor. It was nowhere near as rich and flavorful as I expected, especially as a signature drink. To make matters worse, I waited half an hour for it, which really heightened my disappointment once I finally took that first sip.

I also tried their hot coffee, and unfortunately, it was just… blah. Honestly, I’ve brewed better coffee at home.

On a positive note, I love that PJ’s recognizes veterans with a discount, something a lot of other coffee shops don’t do. That’s a big plus in my book and shows that they value the military community.

I’m hoping the lackluster drinks were just due to the hectic pace of the grand opening. I genuinely want to like PJ’s and support this location because the staff and atmosphere are great. So, I plan to give them another try in the future — fingers crossed the next visit is more about great coffee and less about a not-so-great review.

That’s a nitro cold brew that they mixed 50/50 with water for some reason. Anything to save a buck I guess? Absolutely gross. Poured it out. Unrelated, but to the store, are you sure 15 high intensity halogen spot lights is necessary? I dig the dentist vibe but I gave me a headache after 2 minutes.

This review is long overdue, but I really wanted to express how great this location is. We had visited here while in Alexandria for an event back in January, and we had gotten some coffee and beignets which were SOOO good!! They make the beignets fresh for every order, so even with having to wait a little bit, they were 100% worth it having them hot and fresh. Everyone working there is very friendly as well. There was a moment my friend had worried he messed up ordering my coffee for me (which totally would have been on us the customers), and the employees kindly offered to fix the drink if needed and added some extra sugar. Also love that they’re right next to an Aldi for groceries. If we end up in the area again, we’ll definitely be sure to stop by!!

My husband and I attended the grand opening of PJ’s today. They did not disappoint. I had a simple ice coffee, I did not add sugar, but they was something special about the cream and coffee blend. I can’t wait to go back. We also enjoyed warm Beignets- what a treat, better than a donut. The owner, manager and staff were so friendly and welcoming. I can see this being a cool neighborhood hang out. There was plenty of free parking. Worth the drive from Kingstowne.

Recently opened location! Stopped in to enjoy a medium roast coffee and a beignet. Both were delicious. Always great to welcome a new coffee shop to the neighborhood!

I waited 45 mins for a hot chocolate and beignets via uber eats. While the beignets were great, they literally gave me warm cup of milk. No hot chocolate whatsoever. So disappointed.

Such a cute and cozy spot! From the decor to the tunes playing in the background we loved every little detail. They got me with the advertisement for their southern wedding cake latte and it did not disappoint. Aside from our amazing beverages, the staff were extremely inviting and personable. An awesome start to our weekend; we’ll definitely be back!

EDIT: I ended up coming back to visit PJs again a week or so after I posted by three-star review and was really happy to see my feedback incorporated. My drinks were perfectly prepared and quick when I came back. I really appreciate the owner’s genuine interest and feedback plus clear commitment to building this community business.

Original review:
Let me start out by saying the beignets were phenomenal—fresh and perfectly cooked. I say this as someone who has been to New Orleans. The issue, however, is that the beignets came out in two minutes and the drinks were over ten minutes later. My mom and I went on a Sunday afternoon so it was not busy at all; I really can’t see why it would have taken this long. Plus, my mom ordered a shaken espresso with mocha and there was no chocolate in her drink. I like chicory coffee a lot so I was happy with my cold brew, however I will say the bitterness varies from barista to barista.
