Special mentions to the oysters, the bread with anchovy oil, the al limone pasta, candele al forno, as well as the two desserts (ice cream sandwich and salted honey gelato).
Pastas were sound
Candele Al forno unlocked some new crunchy pasta sensations
The staff were rlly nice and friendly. Would definitely come back when I’m in Hobart
The menu was minimal, we ordered 3 mains to share. The food was very salty and underwhelming. The lack of ingredients was disappointing considering the prices. There was not a vegetable in sight and we were all feeling hungry enough to have a dessert. Two frozen dessert options – not what we felt like on a very cold evening.
Maybe we were missing something. Unfortunately we won’t be back.
Between the three of us, we had the zucchini flowers, the crunchy risotto, and the asparagus for entree, then the tagliatelle and another pasta for mains. Each of these dishes ran quite high on the salt content. We ordered all three desserts to split and one of those featured a salted honey ice cream.
Could we have chosen differently, maybe the combination of dishes we chose was off? I’m not so sure. The menu isn’t huge, there were four pasta mains and we got two of them. Dishes we didn’t try included mussels, culatello, tuna crudo; all things it could be reasonable to assume would have a salty edge.
One of my dining guests had been before, and commented she found it quite salty on her previous visit, unfortunately the second visit kind of confirmed that.
It’s a shame – everything was so close to being fantastic. But that relentless salt, and nothing to cut it with – a palate cleansing sorbet or a fresh side of lightly dressed salad leaves, anything would have helped balance it out. I’m glad we went, but I won’t be hurrying back, sadly.
