Pita BBQ is the destination for a premium, Zabihah Halal Mediterranean experience. Everything we offer is made on location like our hand cut salads, freshly made sauces to our highly acclaimed shawarma and falafel. We worked alongside multiple chefs that brought their specific expertise to making our delicious menu. In 2014, we were honored when we were recognized as WGN’s Chicago’s Best. To this day we follow one simple idea, if it isn’t fresh, it’s not on your plate!

From the moment I walked in, he set the tone: friendly, professional, and genuinely passionate about what he does. The food hit even harder when paired with that kind of service — you can tell he takes pride in making sure every guest leaves satisfied.
It’s rare to see someone that locked in and consistent every time. If you go to Pita BBQ, ask for Karin. He’ll take care of you the right way.
Edit: If ownership wants to speak to their bad food and dirty restaurant they only do so through email. Not a great way to be transparent and run your business. Do yourselves a favor, save your money for hot food from a cleaner place.
The restaurant’s style is simple and unpretentious, focusing on cleanliness and creating a welcoming atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you can immediately feel at ease, whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or sitting down for a relaxed meal. The environment is warm and inviting, making it easy to see why Pita BBQ has quickly become a local favorite.
What really sets Pita BBQ apart is the people. The employees are incredibly friendly and welcoming, going out of their way to make sure you have a great experience. During my visit, I had the chance to chat and laugh with the staff, which added a personal touch that you don’t often find in many restaurants. The owner, Shahzad, was also present, and he was as laid-back and approachable as you could hope for. His passion for the food and commitment to quality shine through in every aspect of the restaurant.
Overall, Pita BBQ offers more than just great food—it provides a dining experience that feels personal and connected. It’s a place where you’re not just another customer, but a valued guest. If you’re in Elgin and craving authentic Mediterranean cuisine with a welcoming vibe, Pita BBQ is the spot to be.
Edit ( I’ve emailed the email on file with no response. I called the store to try and get ahold of “shaz” spoke with someone that said “shaz is my brother” he proceeded to ask me why I called. I explained to him. In the conversation he asked me my name 4 times, I told answered him 4x “my name is Bradley” as we were wrapping our conversation he goes “you said your name is Jacob”.
Ordered Gyro with fries and an extra Pita.
The Fries were great! The sandwich was drowned in sauce and some of the meat was under cooked. Pita’s were flat, smashed and lifeless. Could have been a tortilla.
Overall, I will not go back.
