Made the trip from Urbandale tonight to try Reclaimed Rail Brewing Company and looked forward to ordering bbq from next door. Boy, were we happy we drove a few extra miles for both of these places!
I ordered the 2 Meat Platter with Jalapeno Cream Corn (see pictures). The flavor of all of it was great! The pulled pork and brisket were smoked to perfection and weren’t dry at all – enough moisture that you wouldn’t need bbq sauce at all (but I still enjoyed the hot bbq sauce that they brought).
Update: We liked the brisket so much during our first visit that we brought friends over to try it during their visit. Unfortunately, the first thing the server said was that they were out of brisket. The good thing, we all had pulled pork instead and found that very good also (see picture).
If you are wondering whether it is worth the drive outside of the metro area…you won’t be disappointed!

I’m going to be as fair as I can in this review. This was the first time I’ve tried this place.
Things I Liked
1. Friendly staff
2. Quick service
3. Sides. We tried their homemade sides, which were coleslaw (solid), Mac and cheese (pretty good), cheese potatoes (surprisingly good given how plain they looked. Probably my favorite part).
4. Shredded pork – it was fine, in taste and texture. Flavorful, but I think it’s been reheated more than once. I used to work in a catering kitchen, it’s easy to tell with pork. But it was definitely eatable.)
Things I Disliked
1. It was 6 PM and I was the only person in a BBQ joint, which is a red flag
2. No smoke smell outside. Another red flag. If I owned a BBQ joint I’d burn wood even if we were done smoking so people knew I was rocking.
3. The brisket was ruined. It was neither edible nor eatable. A well prepared brisket should reheat no problem. It’ll still be tender and mild like baby Jesus. This was tough and grey, like an old billy goat with a chip on his shoulder. I would urge this place to take it off the menu until they can get it right, or source it from someplace like Sysco, that has an Austin Blues product that has excellent flavor, is tender, and can be reheated as needed. If they feel the need to keep ruining brisket, at least get a meat slicer and shave it thin or chop it fine. I don’t want to blame the workers, and I hate to take a small local joint to task but I expect better if I’m going to spend over $30. If you figure out the brisket, please leave me a comment and I’ll try it again. I would love for you to get it locked in as your joint is the closest to my house.
In short, I’d have rather paid double to be told you were out of brisket than let what came out the door come out the door.

The mama’s mustard burger was delicious!! The jalapeno cream corn could have been a little creamer but still good. Loved the atmosphere and the young man serving us was extremely polite and friendly. Will definitely be back.

Great family owned business very caring, friendly and professional. I had the Brisket Mac and Cheese. Very excellent. I also liked how the manager would stop by our table to visit with us and to see how our meal was. I ate there Saturday afternoon after my bike ride.

WOW! This place is delicious! I got the Railroad Panini + Mac & Cheese as the side and holy heck it was delicious! Great, clean atmosphere. Friendly staff. I promise you will leave satisfied!
Side note: I tried to call ahead for takeout. I assume they were busy and couldn’t answer (it happens)!But they called me right back! How many businesses can you say do that?!

We ordered while having a drink at Reclaimed Rails. The food arrived quickly, but we were surprised how small some of the portions were, considering the price. Taste wise, it was good but not something I would make a special trip back for.

Pinkleys have improved this place by leaps. It’s nothing fancy, but just good. Had the Memphis sandwich and the pulled pork nachos. Real good. Usually get a side of the jalapeño corn for the nachos, but the corn was a bit watery. Also, maybe reduce the green onion cut size.

New menu, same quality. Ordered the street tacos which states it comes with onion and cilantro, salsa on the side. Came out with a gross slaw on the bottom with meet on top. This is the common theme, no quality control or consistency here. Why would this not follow the new menu?
Wife got the meat sampler. Ribs had no bark or smoke taste and looked like they came out of a crock pot. Pulled pork was good, but that’s a tough one to mess up. Brisket was crispy and chopped into pieces, pretty bad. Burnt ends were good, so confused on why the brisket was bad.
Couple weeks later friends and I went to reclaimed. Buddy ordered food and got the meat sampler/“Meat Sweats”. This time the ribs were over done and not edible. Brisket was the same as above.
I just feel the ownership has no bbq experience. If the menu describes and item that’s how it should appear, so much promise but it just isn’t delivering right now.

I had the ribs two weeks ago and they were great! They were very juicy and the flavor was great! I’ve never received a bad meal from the Box Car and I’m glad they are part of our community here in Bondurant.
