And for the rice and beans, so much lack of flavor, and it’s not being cooked the way it was before. The rice seems to be cooked in a lot more water because it’s super wet and mushy; and again, no flavor. Just bland overall.
I use to recommend this place to friends and family but unfortunately I probably will stop coming here until they go back to the same way they cooked it before. Whoever was cooking it up in the kitchen last month, needs to come back. Whoever is in the kitchen now, please teach them to not be afraid with the seasoning and spice!! Sad to see one of my favorite Jamaican spots lose their touch. Will be looking for new places for now on.
Not to mention the lady that took our order in the restaurant didn’t give us our pork or plantain that normally comes with the meal. After coming home and realizing that it was only chicken I drove back and she apologized and gave us the side of jerk pork and a side of plantain. We asked for the MN Nice sauce and got a completely different sauce. An easy mistake and I live about 3 minutes away so no big deal, but I would hate to live far away and to find out later that my order was wrong and not what I paid for would definitely not make me come back here again.
Again, if you’re looking for something with flavor and spice with that Jamaican heat, go somewhere else. Who knows maybe I’ll update this, if I give them another chance.
Good portion sizes, mine has always come pretty fresh, and I’ve loved the jerk chicken I’ve gotten. Maybe it depends on who makes it and who’s watching it during the day. ♂️ but I’ve loved the food both times my wife & I have gone.
I got the jerk chicken and it came with a good portion of rice, chicken, and a little coleslaw. I loved their coleslaw – its simple. I hate when it’s covered in sugary cream sauce, so I’m glad theirs is so simple and fresh.
Plantains were good and the barbecue sauce we got was fire.
Yes, jerk chicken is spicy. The hope is they don’t overdo the seasonings as some reviews say, but it does come spicy. Maybe more than you may think, but it’s good to me.
It does run a little expensive so be prepared for that, but we’ve eaten-in at lunch time and done take-out at dinner time. Both were good from the Nicollet location.
Place was not very busy, but it appears from some of the reviews they must do a fair amount of takeout/delivery. Maybe that’s what accounted for what seemed like out of the ordinary service for a counter order restaurant. The gentleman at the counter was super friendly and gave us some good natured ribbing.
Maybe a bit rough around the edges, hence the 4-star for atmosphere. Not much of a place to come hang out and enjoy the vibe, but I like places like this and we missed the music/evening side of things which I am sure is quite different.
I’d come back in a heartbeat.
Thank you Pimento for bringing amazing food, culture and warmth to our community! I’ll be back to see you again soon.
