Pier 88 Boiling Seafood & Bar (Independence, MO)
The restaurant is located in a small plaza, sharing parking which can get a bit tight at times. I called in my order. They have online ordering also which actually is preferable. There was a line of patrons (4) picking up orders ahead of me. Wait was approx. 15 min. Not too bad. Definitely worth the wait. They do have dine in seating as well. Offering daily specials which looked appetizing.
Ordered the Seafood boil consisting of crab, shrimp, egg, corn on the cob, potatoes sausage seasoned with butter garlic. Decent size crab legs and tasted delicious great flavoring! yes, I will return again. Packaged well, did not spill or fill my vehicle with the aroma of seafood during the ride home.

Today I went to Pier 88 in Independence. I hadn’t been there in about 5 years. The first thing I tried was the onion rings and they were great. The rest of the food was terrible. The fried calamari had little to no taste and it was like eating rubber. The fried tilapia had a taste to it that reminded me of the way a firecracker smells. The Cajun fries were pretty greasy and not crispy. I will never be going there again. It was a waste of 40$ that I spent today on my lunch break. I would have returned the food but I had to get back to work.

I’ve never had a crab boil and decided we’d try this restaurant for the 1st time. It was date night for me and my wife and we arrived around 6:30 on a Tuesday evening.

We parked and went inside. The place seemed interesting, and we were promptly seated. We we greeted and ordered drinks and an appetizer.

I ordered a crab boil, and the server suggested pier 88 style seasoning. My wife decided on a fried tilapia poboy.

The crab rangoon arrived, and we both agreed they were the best we’ve ever had. We devoured them, and our entrees arrived.

The food was fresh, and the fries looked delicious. I quickly snatched one from my wife, and they were delicious.

The crab boil was amazing. The pier 88 seasoning was spot on!

We both really enjoyed the restaurant, and I’d have to put this in our top 5 date nights. I really loved the food, and the atmosphere was fun.

Im definitely coming back and recommend you should, too.

We were in the mood for some seafood and decided to check out Pier 88 off of I-70. We started our meal with the hush puppies appetizer and the onion rings appetizer. Both were delicious, but I’ll be craving those hush puppies again soon! We also ordered one of the specials: 1/2 lb shrimp, 1/2 lb Snow Crab Legs, 1/2 lb sausage, corn, egg, and potato for $30. We ordered Hot as our spice level, but we could’ve gone up a notch! Make sure to try the strawberry lemonade…it’s so delicious.

We waited a while for someone to come to our table but the service was overall pretty good after.

The service was extremely slow and a slight language. The waitress never came back to check to see if the food was alright or if we needed anything. I don’t like the fact the gratuity/tip was already added onto the bill and had the audacity to have an extra tip option. I tip accordingly. The food was actually very good, seasoned very well. I had the seafood boil seasoned with old bay, I recommend that worth the $30. This was the first time, because I enjoyed the food I will consider coming back.

I wouldn’t go back. The food is not good. I got a boil and my husband had a sandwich and both were not good. The “Cajun fries” are just frozen seasoned fries, nothing Cajun about them. The flavor is not there on the boils and there were little pieces of shrimp shells covering everything. It also stinks in there, not like seafood, like vinegar and eggs. Don’t recommend.

I’m giving the 1 star review for the service only. We frequent this restaurant regularly, about 2-3 times per month have had no issues on service. However, our last visit on NYE was very different.
We order the same food every single time we go there. Our server brings my husband his food and it was incorrect. The server became very rude and argumentative telling my husband it IS what he ordered. When my husband told her it wasn’t what he ordered, she just wouldn’t back off and started arguing with him. I couldn’t believe she was acting this way. This is one of our favorite places to eat and this incident sure did put a sour taste in our mouth! We may need to rethink our decision if we want to return.

I’m no food critic but I have taste buds and honey. Pier 88 deserves ALL 5 STARS. Our wait was 20 minutes did I mention it’s mothers day. Our service was exceptional, our waitress well she was so professional, upbeat, and attentive. She just seemed happy to serve us. Our wait for the food took a little while maybe 25 minutes after being seated but I promise that’s my only complaint and it was forgotten the minute my food met my lips. It’s served piping hot and full flavor. The process is simple ordering. 1. Pick your meats 2. Pick your sauce 3. Pick your heat. My hubby loves seafood so this isn’t our first rodeo. The boils don’t come with eggs oddly enough it’s 1.50 for 3 eggs ( get the eggs) it’s a big place so bring family or friends it’s enough space for all. It is wheelchair accessible. We both ordered boils he got king crab legs shrimp sausage corn and eggs and I got snow crab crawfish shrimp corn and eggs. We ordered the Fried calamar and 6 wings for an appetizer. Definitely worth stopping in.

Party of 3 seated immediately but no one ever came to our table to service us. Three different waitresses passed by our table several times assisting others. We did not even receive water, 15 minutes in. I will not go to this place again.
