The shepherd’s pie was bland. The recipe itself was alright but it needed salt.
The French apple pie was almost underbaked yet the crumble topping was already brown. Despite us baking it twice to reheat before serving, the crumble and crust were almost slimy and doughy. Additionally, we got apple core, with seeds, and the stems of the apple in our pie. Glad to see that real whole apples were used but there was absolutely no quality control. Overall flavor was alright.
The key lime pie was the best of the 3 but still underwhelming. The crust was not made from graham crackers like it’s supposed to but that’s okay, I was willing to look past that. But yet again the crust was flavorless and reeked of a taste as if it was old. The “key lime” filling was a standard lime custard but it was clear that actual key limes were not used. (I am a little picky when it comes to key lime pie since I grew up in the Florida keys)
I understand that purchasing pies during the holiday season would be difficult due to high demand but every single pie we got had issues and the service was not any better. I did not order from the holiday menu but rather the regular menu. When I got there to pick it up the food, the lady was extremely annoyed and aggressive towards me telling me, not once but twice, that I needed to have ordered off of the holiday menu during the holiday time… like okay…then maybe don’t have the regular menu/shop button open as an option too. How was I supposed to know that it was a requirement to order from a specific menu.
Needless to say we won’t be returning. I wanted to love this local pie shop and I had high hopes but am extremely disappointed.
The recipe was very good, but the pie was all filling and almost no chicken. I had 2 fairly large slices with no chicken in it at all. For that price, I felt ripped off. There should have been 3 times the amount of meat. I paid over $30 for a gravy pie. You have a great recipe, but your frugalness rips off customers for the price you charge. Totally not worth the money.
If I were scoring it separately: 4 stars for pie quality, 2–3 for service, averaging to 3 stars overall.
Pie Gourmet uses high-quality ingredients and turns them into consistently flavorful pies. The crust has proper structure and good butter flavor, without gimmicks.
Customer service varies. Interactions range from neutral to mildly unfriendly. I don’t know what it is about some Vienna bakeries. Cenan’s up the street (now closed) was even worse—openly contemptuous toward customers.
