Ordered 3 pies from here because we were told that this shop is a local favorite but we were extremely disappointed with the execution of the pies.

The shepherd’s pie was bland. The recipe itself was alright but it needed salt.

The French apple pie was almost underbaked yet the crumble topping was already brown. Despite us baking it twice to reheat before serving, the crumble and crust were almost slimy and doughy. Additionally, we got apple core, with seeds, and the stems of the apple in our pie. Glad to see that real whole apples were used but there was absolutely no quality control. Overall flavor was alright.

The key lime pie was the best of the 3 but still underwhelming. The crust was not made from graham crackers like it’s supposed to but that’s okay, I was willing to look past that. But yet again the crust was flavorless and reeked of a taste as if it was old. The “key lime” filling was a standard lime custard but it was clear that actual key limes were not used. (I am a little picky when it comes to key lime pie since I grew up in the Florida keys)

I understand that purchasing pies during the holiday season would be difficult due to high demand but every single pie we got had issues and the service was not any better. I did not order from the holiday menu but rather the regular menu. When I got there to pick it up the food, the lady was extremely annoyed and aggressive towards me telling me, not once but twice, that I needed to have ordered off of the holiday menu during the holiday time… like okay…then maybe don’t have the regular menu/shop button open as an option too. How was I supposed to know that it was a requirement to order from a specific menu.
Needless to say we won’t be returning. I wanted to love this local pie shop and I had high hopes but am extremely disappointed.

Stopped by on Christmas Eve to grab a quiche for Christmas breakfast and a shepherds pie for Xmas dinner. Went to heat up the quiche Lorraine and there was I’m guessing a pumpkin pie. Annoyed would be an understatement

A small shop that serves pies and some other baked goods. The price point is on the higher side; however, they do sell a quality product. The two slices are key lime and peach blackberry and the tow pies are lemon chess and apple. The total for all of these was about $80.

I have visited twice in the past couple of months to get fruit pies to take to family. I ordered a small apple pie the first time and a small cherry pie and a small apple pie the second time. I actually got a large apple when I picked up my pies since they ran out of small apple pies for whatever reason (my gain — the large had a filling three inches high). Both pies have a flaky crust that were not overly buttery or salty for my taste. Both pies had fillings that were true to the fruit without being overly sweet similar to other reviews. I would be curious to try other flavors like blackberry peach in the summer and maybe even a couple of savory pies like the chicken and shepherd’s. Staff struck me as efficient and helpful in both of my experiences. Prices seem consistent with bakeries in the Vienna area. I would return if I had a bakery pie fix that needed satisfying.

Got a chocolate pie from them and it was great. Filling was good and the crust was impressive. Exactly what we were looking for!

Chicken pot pie is an old school guilty pleasure that I don’t normally seek out. But I decided to go high end for my birthday dinner and order one from Pie Gourmet. It was expensive, but I thought it was worth it to get a quality pie.

The recipe was very good, but the pie was all filling and almost no chicken. I had 2 fairly large slices with no chicken in it at all. For that price, I felt ripped off. There should have been 3 times the amount of meat. I paid over $30 for a gravy pie. You have a great recipe, but your frugalness rips off customers for the price you charge. Totally not worth the money.

Got a Peach Apple and a Turkey Pot Pie. Both were excellent! The crusts are delicate and flakey, not greasy. We enjoyed them both too quickly to think about pictures, but will be back!

The pie is excellent. The service remains uneven.

If I were scoring it separately: 4 stars for pie quality, 2–3 for service, averaging to 3 stars overall.

Pie Gourmet uses high-quality ingredients and turns them into consistently flavorful pies. The crust has proper structure and good butter flavor, without gimmicks.

Customer service varies. Interactions range from neutral to mildly unfriendly. I don’t know what it is about some Vienna bakeries. Cenan’s up the street (now closed) was even worse—openly contemptuous toward customers.

Order here every year without an issue. This year I called ahead of time to order two pies and was told they can’t do special orders and to just walk in the day before thanksgiving to get the pie I want. “We’ll have plenty of pies” is what I was told. I walked in and they did NOT have the pie I had asked for available and told me all of that type of pie were ordered in advance. Why was I told otherwise then? Extremely frustrating experience.

So here I am in Maryland, which is a bit of a drive to Vienna, I called ahead of time to make sure they had the pies I wanted available before I made the trip. They assured me they had both of the pies; I get there 45 mins later and what don’t they have? Both of them, wow what are the chances? And to top it all off the workers were rude. I really wanted to support a small business but guess I’m going to Wegmans! Wow, look at all these pies, no workers bumping into me without saying “excuse me”, and it’s only $15/$18! Needless to say this was my first time going to Pie Gourmet and definitely my last.
