Food 4/5 – Ordered chicken katsu plate and a side of pork fried rice. Chicken katsu was fried nicely and the breading was fine. It was definitely a bigger portion than I expected. The pork fried rice had very good “wok-hei” great flavor. Miso soup was watery and was lacking flavor, although it was served nice and hot.
Price $$ – Price is good with the portions that were served.
Service 3/5 – Service is average, we needed to flag down a server to refill our drinks.
Atmosphere 3/5 – Interior is fine but not much of a Japanese theme, the lanterns remind me of a Chinese restaurant.
Overall – Had a pleasant experience and would visit again.

The black garlic ramen is phenomenal. I get it every time. My favorite soup that I’ve had in Hawai’i. Plus it’s so healthy for you, if you look up the cardiovascular benefits of black garlic. The service and vibe is also so friendly and local. Soup is good for the soul. There’s an old saying: “bad news is better with good soup, than without.” Add to that my own: “good news is even better with good soup!” Can’t go wrong with this restaurant choice. Full stop.

My husband and I stopped in here for a quick lunch while visiting the Big Island, and did not regret our decision! The service was quick and friendly and the food was delicious, which is saying a lot as we lived in Japan (and had lots of delicious ramen while there) for four years. Highly recommend!

I love Daiichi Ramen. All of the locations I have been to pretty much operate the EXACT same (Kailua and Kapolei). It’s never been too busy when I’ve gone since it’s always midday, after lunch and before dinner. The service is quick and I’ve never had to wait long at all to get my food.

First time I tried the Hilo location and it was just as good as the other ones in the islands. Fast service big plates and ono grinds. If you haven’t been make sure you go. Recommend for everyone.

This place has amazing Japanese style curry. The plates are very lage portions but match with the price of a plate around $15 each. I feel like you won’t leave hungry which isn’t a bad thing. I couldn’t finish my plate. The plate is bigger than my head and the picture just doesn’t do it enough justice. I felt really good after eating here. It’s definitely a very small dining area, I think they would do much better at a larger establishment. With 5 parties the whole restaurant might be completely full.

They were very busy and seemed to be a little under staffed. The food was great. Don’t be in a rush, but you can enjoy. I had the tonkatsu. My wife had the shrimp fried rice. We both enjoyed our meals. Her rice was loaded with shrimp.

Delicious food, friendly fast service. I had the spicy tonkatsu ramen and my husband chose the chicken curry, both were great! Welcome change from the tourist traps by our hotel.

Customer service is a bit rough around the edges but not bad.
The ramen was very very good and tasty. Wonton basically had no meat in it, just the wrapper.
