This place specializes in pide and lahmacun so it’s natural that their menu revolves around those.
We got the long mozzarella pide for my daughter and the round 2 egg cheese pide with tomatoes added in for the adults.
The long pide is the longest I’ve seen. The dough is stretched thin to the point it’s almost like a flatbread with crisp edges, some chew, and the layer of cheese is equally as thin so perfect ratio. It is quite good. My picky daughter loves it and we enjoyed it as well!
The round pide… it didn’t occur to me until it came out that the eggs are raw. We ended up breaking the eggs and spreading it everywhere and then cutting it up like a pizza. We (the adults) loved this one. The flavors worked well and the wet elements made it not dry. The dough on this was thicker than the other but perfectly so. As such, it was less crispy but had a very nice chew. My husband who usually says food is merely “okay” said this was his favorite and it was good. GOOD. That says a lot!
We also got ayran (salty yogurt drink) because it’s something we always order with pide. They don’t make their own here but the one they have is fine. My husband thinks it’s too smooth (what an odd comment) and prefers the house made version we’re used to.
Almost all of the Turkish restaurants in the area also serve şalgam (fermented radish juice) so I gave it a try. It is strong, earthy, and spicy (think pickle juice and V8), but is usually enjoyed alongside heavier meals, meat, and fish. I absolutely love this stuff. It cut through the heavy qualities of delicious cheese bread and I actually ate more after I finished it. Definitely an acquired taste (only I was a fan). It does contain wheat (surprisingly), so don’t get it if you have an allergy.
Only one man was at the front and everyone else was in the kitchen so there might be a delay BUT we didn’t feel like it was a problem even though we were the only ones seated in the addition so a bit out of the way. The place was clean and service was good. Prices are very reasonable for the size and the pides are exceptional. I am glad this was our first exposure to Turkish food in NJ because it was a memorable one. I’m sure we’ll be back. (The only downside is the fact that it was a 50 minute drive to get there and the parking situation because it’s mostly street parking on a super busy street, but they do have 2 dedicated spots in front if you’re lucky enough to get one.)
Note: They don’t seem to have a gluten-free option so we brought pizza from home for my youngest child who is allergic to wheat and eggs (among other things). He was content, though he did ask if he could have the pide after he finished his food. I’m definitely on the lookout for a place that offers allergy-friendly pide dough, if that even exists!
As a Houstonian, I really wish we had pide like this in Houston! Definitely a place I would come back to.
Houston’da da böyle pide olsa keşke!
Throughout the service, even though we initially tried to be understanding and thought maybe he was just having a bad moment and might behave differently later, his attitude stayed the same for the entire meal. Despite us being extremely polite, he continued this behavior the whole time.
We have been to many restaurants, but this was honestly the rudest and most unfriendly server I have ever encountered in my life.
The pides were very good. We ordered two different kinds, and both were really delicious. We liked them a lot. However, we may not consider going back—solely because of the poor service and the server’s rude, unfriendly attitude. He didn’t say “enjoy your meal” even once. Whenever we asked for something, he responded as if we were insulting him.
His movements and behavior are completely inappropriate for the place he works at.
