They also cheap out on ingredients. Got a rare beef and beef balls pho, and they cut up each beef ball into multiple pieces to make them appear more.
The broth was also very dark with a thick layer of oil.
This place is under new management and is technically now called Ngon Corner but it seems they’re capitalizing on the high ratings of the old restaurant here.
There was so much soup in the container that I couldn’t even put the noodles into it without it overflowing and making a mess everywhere. I tried microwaving it, but it still didn’t heat through properly. In the end, I had no choice but to tolerate the hard noodles and vegetables.
The broth itself was flavorful, sweet, and rich — almost too rich after a while. That’s when their house chili sauce came in to save the day — adding just the right amount of spice and acidity to balance things out.
Portion size was generous, definitely worth the price, and perfect for a cold day. If you’re a pho lover who wants to try something more meaty and bold, this is it.
Highly recommend going hungry and bringing your chili game.
That said, the kitchen staff should exercise a bit more care when preparing the food. I won’t go into detail as the manager stepped in immediately, apologized, and handled the situation with genuine attentiveness. It wasn’t a major issue, but it’s the only reason I didn’t give a full five stars.
One thing to note: parking can be tricky. The lot out front is small, and you can’t park in the back lot as it belongs to Jumbo Lobster.
The pho was perfectly rich, but light. The rare beef melts in your mouth. It’s difficult to impress my Vietnamese mother, but even she was surprised to how good her bún bò Huế was (the dish she’s most picky about). It was perfectly spicy, savory, and aromatic.
We also ordered the chả giò (fried spring rolls) and they were one of the best we’ve had. The filling was seasoned well, and the outside had a terrific crunch.
The portions here are also very generous which we appreciate! It’s good value! Service was also friendly.
Side note:
We wanted to order a pho to go for my father because we didn’t want him to miss out. However, they told us that we could only order the large size for takeout and not the regular. We just found that a bit odd.
Update:
On the pricier side for a bowl of pho, but I much rather eat here than your typical Pho Anh Vu. Jonathan was our server and he was very friendly.
