Reviews
While the modest exterior of the Phoenix Asian Diner might have some wear and tear, don’t let it deter you. Inside, you will discover some of the finest Asian cuisine that Shawnee has to offer.
Highlights:
The Cuisine: The food here is the main attraction. The sushi, in particular, is excellent, featuring an impeccable balance of flavors and textures. Every dish is prepared and presented with great care. The Nigiri and the Shrimp Tempura Roll are standout selections that are not to be missed.
The Atmosphere: The interior of the diner is tastefully appointed with a pleasant color palette and scattered pieces of Asian decor that enhance the dining experience without being gaudy.
The Value: Prices are both reasonable and fair. Given the quality and portion sizes, this restaurant offers outstanding value.
The Location: Conveniently situated downtown near the community pool and easily accessible from Highway 3, the location is perfect for those working in the area or traveling through Shawnee.
Weekend Service: The service staff on weekends are friendly, attentive, and highly competent at their jobs.
Areas for Improvement:
Weekday Service: The service level appears to be inconsistent. During a weekday lunch, there was only one server on duty who seemed overwhelmed. The staff member was audibly expressing her frustration to patrons, which detracted from the dining experience.
The Lighting: The interior is quite dim, which can make it difficult to read the menu. Simply opening the window blinds would likely resolve this issue and create a more inviting space.
The Location Caveat: While the downtown location is convenient, guests should be cautious and aware of their surroundings, as is advisable in any downtown city area.
Overall Opinion:
Phoenix Asian Diner is a true standout. The phenomenal quality of the food more than makes up for any minor shortcomings. It is a must-try for any enthusiast of Asian cuisine in the area. While a few improvements in service consistency and ambiance are needed to achieve a perfect score, the restaurant is well on its way. For now, it earns a strong 4 out of 5 stars.
Anyone who owns a cat or dog can recognize an animal hair, short, multi colored, and had a follicle on the end. Not doubt it was hair, there was multiple. My waitress was great and immediately took it back to be remade, and when she alerted management and they went around the corner to discuss, I heard the woman say several times quite loudly, that it was not hair. I had ordered a dinner portion with rice, sweet and sour chicken, rangoons, and sesame chicken.
I had not finished eating my meal and when it was returned I only received back my sesame chicken, which was only about a quarter of what I had ordered. Another waitress walked into the restaurant a few moments later and I heard the same woman in management discussing the, in her opinion, false hair in my food. She was only about 10 feet away from me. The sheer lack of professionalism alone is enough to make me never return without even making note of the hair. I had to pay $22 for this, which was already overpriced for the quality. Ordinarily I get a different meal, which is why I return, but after having crunchy rice and chicken that seemed to have wet breading inside, I will not be giving them anymore business. My waitress was amazing, but the management is horrible. The woman who proclaimed it wasn’t hair checked me out, she didn’t offer an apology, a price reduction, or do anything to make it right. I will not be returning to this restaurant ever again.
This place isn’t on one of the main roads, and I thought google was leading me astray again.
To be honest, the place is a little rough on the edges, but the food and service make up for it.
The waitress was kind and attentive. Not just we me but others around us.
She made sure we were taken care of.
My kids are ready to come back after their next appointments.
