Lots of pluses and minuses here:
FOOD: beef broth is superlative, serving generous, side veggies (mint, sprouts, lime) fresh. But: Meatballs small and rubbery; beef round no flavor: flank steak tasted OFF; hot chili oil tasted burnt and acrid; noodles were ok but nothing to remark on.
SERVICE: I got lucky, walked in when a table was open and was immediately seated by a courteous, efficient young woman who got me ice water and meal quickly. But then she went on break and over the next half hour I observed very ugly service: incoming customers crowded at the door not being helped or even acknowledged, tables not being cleared, some customers gave up and left, others had to get up and flag down help to order. I cannot recommend this place to friends in case they get the same treatment.
ATMOSPHERE: loved the quiet, simple decor (it’s all white inside now) and easy street parking (this was lunchtime on a Monday). However, had to walk around two vagrants camped on the sidewalk to get to the door. Not someplace to take your mother.
Summary: $16 for a mediocre meal.

I had heard that this place has some of the best beef pho around and they did not disappoint! Super flavorful, great selection of Vietnamese dishes, including some rice dishes. We also tried the lemongrass chicken banh mi. The bread is fantastic. The sandwich could use more veggies and mint but it was flavorful. Definitely going back.

I’ve had a bad cold for about a week and I ordered the Pho soup (white meat, all veggies no noodles) It was soooooo delicious and EXACTLY what I needed while nursing this illness. 10/10! Highly recommend! Worth the effort to find parking – Located BEHIND Pineapples Fresh Island Cuisine in downtown Hilo.

We tried two different types of pho, and everything was so delicious that I even forgot to take a photo of the second one! Highly recommend. It was unforgettable.

Place has great food. It’s the waiter is so horrible! The young skinny girl. For the second time I went and really make you feel bad about yourself asking simple questions. I will not be going back to this restaurant anymore.

We dropped by after spending the day at Volcano National Park. We were hoping to get some Spring/Summer rolls, but this establishment doesn’t have any on the menu. We settled on two bowls of Chicken Pho with white meat. This is the first restaurant we’ve been to that gave you a choice on the chicken, white, dark, or a combination of both. A nice option. The Pho broth was flavorful, and the accompanying vegetables were fresh.
All in all, a great bowl of Pho, just wished we had some spring rolls to go with it.

Greatness mixed with consistency. Our #1 Pho restaurant. My Wife and I literally only eat at one other Pho place and it’s all the way in Texas. Every time we come to Hilo we have to get at least one bowl!
My favorite is the spicy beef stew pho and my Wife gets the Pho Tai! We also get one Thai tea and one order of fresh spring roll! It is delicious.
We loooooooooooove it here!

If you’re looking for an authentic, tasty and fresh Pho – that’s the place to go! I had the combination Pho with different variations of beef, it was the best Pho I had in while. Service is good, everything’s clean and tidy. I’m definitely coming back 🙂

It’s been over 12 years and Pho Viet has been consistently delicious and the same all around. Understandably their prices have increased considering the times, yes? Wonderful to support our local family businesses. Thank you, Phi Viet!
