I walked in and the inside was packed too, and that was around 1PM. But I was immediately greeted and he said he’d clean a table for us. We sat down and checked the menu and I was happy to see such a huge variety of so many Vietnamese delights, not just lots of Pho, but different styles of entrées and appetizers too.
I tried their Phở Tái (thinly sliced, rare, beef eye round) and my coworker got Phở Ga (chicken Pho). We also started with their pork crispy spring roll and their summer roll. Both rolls were really tasty and made with fresh ingredients. The Pho we ordered was beautifully served and tasted great! The richness and depth of flavor in the Phở Tái was so nice. The accoutrement that came with the Pho was extremely fresh.
Overall, this was a very nice experience. Food quality and flavor were spot on. Service was Very Friendly and Great! Just bring ca$h, because that’s the only way you can pay there. But go, give ‘em a try!
The Black man greeting people is with it. He is friendly, fast and hospitable. Seriously great service.
Secondly the pho (beef broth with tofu) was so darn good! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
No compliant about it at all.
The rice paper spring rolls can be worked on meaning: it only comes with the tofu and noodles, it would be nice if there were some fresh veggies (carrots, cabbage, mint, tofu, cucumbers and noodles with a dash of salt) – bam
Other than that we really were happy with the service and pho.
Side note: there may be a wait. So be prepared.
It’s a small restaurant and can get busy on weekends, but don’t let that deter you. the service is quick and efficient, so you’re in and out without feeling rushed. Definitely worth the wait and one of the best pho places around.
This is the absolute best Vietnamese food in richmond and surrounding counties. My partner and I come at least once a month and are always treated like family. I have been coming to this restaurant for over 15 years and the food has always been reliable, delicious every single time. The portions are generous, the prices are fair, and the service is always friendly. The paintings by the current owners father that line every inch of the walls of the restaurant, add a unique atmosphere and make the experience of eating here even more special. I notice something new in his paintings every time. Thank you to the family that has kept this place what it is. I would be miserable if it weren’t for Pho Tay Do, because Vietnamese food is my favorite cuisine in the whole wide world.
Highly recommend: spicy pho, vermicelli with grilled pork, papaya salad with dried beef, young coconut water, ca fe sua da vegan (Vietnamese style iced coffee with coconut milk instead of condensed milk).
Pho was ok, a bit sweet on the soup.
The broth was completely bland…..none of the depth or aroma you get from properly roasted spices, onions, ginger, or long simmering. It was almost flavorless. The presentation didn’t help either. Instead of a nicely arranged bowl with a nest of noodles, fresh basil, thinly sliced onions, and pink, tender meat along the sides, everything was just sunken to the bottom of an oversized bowl. There were no sliced onions at all, just a few stray green onions floating around and it didn’t even come with any basil, which is probably the only thing that could have added any additional flavor to the dish.
The side plate came with jalapeños and bean sprouts, but the broth wasn’t nearly hot enough to soften them, so they might as well have been eaten raw. The chili oil had no kick, and even the brand-name siracha on the table tasted flat, like it was either a bad batch or being swapped out for something else.
The only positive thing I can say is that the server was friendly. Beyond that, I have no idea how this place has a 4.7 rating. I will not be returning.
